Good luck finding a new cable...
Got this from a dealer at 50% off since it's last years model and there was no box or cable to the headphones. Dealer told me it was ok to use regular headphone-cables. Not-so-true. Try finding new cables online, it's IMPOSSIBLE! Contacting a local Protec importer / dealer was suggested as a solution so i did - Vans Norway import these in Norway - they got me the wrong cable - the plug on this is super special so regular 3,5mm jacks just won't do.
Went back to the store and demanded a new cable, suddenly they had it in stock anyways and gave it to me in exchange for the (free) cable i got from Vans Norway. The cable is very special as it has a locking mechanism. You plug it in and twist it a little and it sits tight and seals the hole. Very smart but very difficult to fetch a replacement.
Haven't tried it on in the field yet (will update review once the snow starts coming) but first impressions are nice, sound is powerful and quality seems nice. Sound can be muted instantly by pressing a button on the left earpad. Volume can be adjusted on the right. Glove-friendly layout.
3 stars, helmet is nice and sound system works fine but it's no good without the cable and the cable is HARD to come by!
I read on an REI.com review of this helmet...
I read on an REI.com review of this helmet that it's good for people with narrow heads. Does anyone know if this is true? I have a very narrow head and have always had trouble finding helmets that fit me properly.
Pro-tec Assault DK and backcountry.com
The Pro-Tec assault is a great all around helmet. The audio interface is super easy to use with cold weather gear on and the headphone output is excellent. You might want to consider a tight skull cap if you ride on super cold days to keep the wind out
My first helmet had issues with the right headphone speaker - probably in the volume control as the volume control continued to work for the left ear.; backcountry.com went above and beyond to ship a new helmet immediately and even gave me the sale price on the new helmet.
how do i get the size?
how do i get the size?
the only size they have in stock is small, so it wont let you choose any other options
i got this helmet for christmas and it worked out awsome, i had been lookin for earpads compadaple 4 my old pro tec helmet, but then i decided it was time to get something new, the plantronic speakers in it get really loud, it has a clean and crisp sound, and the helmet is light and comfertable, i wud recomend this helmet to someone who like to hit the slopes with style and comfert, i ride rails and boxes and this helmet gave me good protection 4 sum nasty wipeouts, dont b stupid protect ur head
