Awesome helmet for a great price.

I needed a proper snowsports helmet to use for snowboarding as I was tired of wearing my MTB lid with a balaclava. This helmet sports super plush and warm lining materials and covers for your ears to keep you toasty. Theres a loop to hold onto goggles, and the fit is pretty comfy. Not super vented, but thats not a huge need unless your going to be really warming up on the slopes or sweating. Great buy

Great Helmet

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The helmet fits really well and has a great low profile look to it. Chin strap and ear pieces are soft and warm. My goggles fit snug against the brim which will be great on cold days to not have a gap between the helmet and goggles.

My only complaint is that the high goggle strap combined with a low profile makes it tricky to keep the goggles on the helmet when you take them off your face

Great helmet!

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Great helmet and would definitely recommend it! My husband and I both got this helmet (his in the army green and mine in a teal and purple combination that doesn't appear to be offered any more).

Overall, this helmet has been very comfortable for me. I am a beginner snow-boarder, so I crash a lot and this definitely contributes to my feeling of safety in crashing.

Con - The goggle strap is higher than I would have liked but, since I keep my goggles on my face most of the time anyways, it does a fine job.

Pros - I can fit a thin fleece beanie on underneath it to add to the already copious warmth and padding, which makes it all the more functional for me. My husband wears his without a hat and says it keeps his head plenty warm - I tend to run cold anyways.
-Also, the visor is helpful in keeping the snow and wind from out of my eyes.

Great helmet!

Weird fit

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I wish this helmet fit better. It's super basic and you can tell the construction just wasn't there which is why it's so cheap. I went with the Red Mutiny instead. It fits my goggle shape (Smith I/OS) and the shape of my head much better than this helmet.

Great helmet

Fits well. Pretty warm without causing my head to sweat which is nice. As others have said the goggle strap is pretty high which isn't the worst thing but is noticeable at first.

Feels better riding with this

This helmet is light, well ventilated, and comfortable. The plush ear pads and strap are super cozy, zero chafe.I love I can drop in audio to the ear pads. I Macgyvered some over the head Skull Candy headphones to go in the ear pads. Weaaring this gives me a great confidence boost when doing park laps, or ducking off between the trees. Completely satisfied.

Got brains?

Wear a helmet. But have oakley A frames or airbrakes? Wear a different one. Unless you buy zeal's z3's with MOD Live. Then they fit awesome. No goggle gap. I would imagine any goggle system with a big plastic hinge area would make it difficult to get these to fit well.

will quiksilver hubble goggles fit with this helmet? I have the bern baker hard hat and they are too big for the helmet.

The new Hubble goggle was not designed to fit with any of the current helmets in the market but it will fit ok at best when worn underneath the helmet. The reason is due to the amount the wrap in the frame design that gives you the 160 degree peripheral vision. Quik is addressing for next year as there will be 3 new helmet models to fit this goggle.

Great Helmet

This is my first helmet purchase for snowboarding. I checked out Red, and Bern also and found this to be the lightest and most comfortable. Half way through the first day with it I had completely forgot I had a helmet on. With just a skull cap underneath my head was warm and my ears stayed toasty.

Great Helmet

Pro-tec Riot vs Bern Baker

The Riot fits more of an oval head shape whereas the Baker fits a rounder head shape. It all comes down to a personal fit.
Both are very light. The materials & build on the Riot may be just a tad more refined.

Super light, great fit, super low profile

I am a fan of low-profile brimmed helmets, so my favorite helmets till now were the Bern Watts and Bern Baker. Just got the Riot and I am stoked on it.

Really really light. Haven't weighed it but I would rank it among the lightest on the market.
Lowest profile of any helmet I've tried other than the Bern models, and the fit is better.
Liner is soft, stays put, and the ear pads are cush.
Fits as well out of the box as the Smith Maze (best-fitting helmet out there IMO, but everyone and their girlfriend has it). No forehead pressure point.
Strap setup is dead on and easy to adjust.
Chin strap pad is secure and really soft. I usually take them off but not this one.
Top vents are mesh covered (no snow plugs to knock out after you eat it).
Fits great with Oakley Crowbars and the re-issue Pro Frame.

In-mold design, so not quite as durable as an EPS-lined hard shell.
The 'windshield' channel up under the brim doesn't fit my goggles, but I assume that's because of the goggles not the helmet.
Rear goggle strap holder should be removable, and it's just a tad high for my taste.

Super nice. The pros far outweigh any cons, and I am really nitpicking. I fully recommend the Riot if you want a light, great-fitting, low-profile lid with a real brim.

After much research, i figured out that these use quick clip II compatible ear pads. So anything R.E.D. (burton) makes for their helmets after 2009 (beware 2008 and pre audex earpads for cheap on ebay - they are quick clip 1 and not II) will fit the riot helmet. The bad news is, since now they put zippers on their ear pads to just drop in the skullcandies, they don't really sell replacement ear pads anymore for their helmets, unless you wanna get the "audex subwoofer" system.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like the audio ear pads are sold separately on the site...but they are available...check yer local shop????
