Thank you to Backcountry.com and United By Blue for hand-selecting me to review this piece of gear for the benefit of the Backcountry.com community.

To test out, I was given the size large bag in the blue color. I recently purchased an Amazon Kindle and found this bag to be perfect for storing it in as I travel, as it is roughly the same size as a book which I imagine is a common object this bag is designed to hold. It has the capability to hold two Kindles (see picture), but one in there plus a few odds and ends is a nice fit. The small size would probably be a better, tighter fit for a small item like the Kindle.

The bag is almost exactly the same size as a standard magazine, though a magazine will not fit inside of it easily (you could probably manage to squeeze it in if you’re willing to slightly damage the magazine). I don’t carry a purse, but I imagine that if a handle were added, this bag would be a great size for carrying keys, phone, wallet, snacks, etc. in.

I plan to use the bag this winter to carry books, my Kindle, and various other objects around town. While I don’t think it would stand up in a downpour, it can handle small amounts of precipitation and provides an adequate amount of protection from the elements. The colored canvas of the bag is nice and thick, though not so thick as to lose its flexibility.

The bag seems to be pretty solidly made, though I have used it pretty lightly so far. The colors are pretty true to the picture too. One things I have noticed is that the dark color combined with the material used to make the bag causes pet hair, dirt, etc. to stick to it and it always looks dirty if you’re not careful about where you put it. This might not be as bad with the other colors, but with the navy it’s pretty apparent when the bag is dirty.
