The way it sits in my pack (handle up) the moment I pull it out, it's extended. You can't get any faster than that.
It also moves snow like a blower and is a wonderful tool for multidays aside from avy use. I've made beds, kitchens, kickers, everything you could want in the backcountry.
And it's light!
So after looking at the complete K2, Bern, Smith, Giro and RED lineup, Smith helmets seemed to have pretty much the best build quality and their "shaping" fit my head better than most. The Colt is a lower-end model but I found the fit on my head to be perfect the moment I put it on... Even the pricier models took a bit of adjusting to get to that point.
So I bought this one. It vents my goggles (REALLY, really well) and I don't even use Smith goggles (yet). So buy it. It's sturdy, comfy, and just the right amount of warm.
