I think Montrail makes very high quality shoes. I have always had trouble with getting blisters in new shoes to the point where I just assumed this was part of the break-in process. I have not had any issues like that with this shoe or my other Montrails. As far as this shoe in particular goes I think it is a very unique style. There seem to be a lot of different definitions when it comes to minimalist shoes. I think where this one excels is that while you are getting a light and breathable shoe you don't have to worry about bruising your foot by stepping on something sharp like some other minimalist shoes or going through that break in period where your feet have to get stronger. I was skeptical at first that this would perform like a minimalist shoe but when you compare it to a traditional trail shoe there is a big difference. The blue padding on the bottom is incredibly flexible not rigid at all like it may appear. It's a great shoe, it's definitely worth trying if you are thinking you might want to give the minimalist running shoes a try but maybe are not ready to commit to a shoe with no support.

I love the idea behind running barefoot, but I don't particularly want to be that nut job out on the trail running barefoot. This shoe is a great way to feel like you are running barefoot but also look sane and protect your feet a bit. I love how ridiculously light and breathable these shoes are and I do think I have a much more natural stride in this type of shoe. My favorite part about this shoes is that the inside is so well made I do not need to wear socks. I have yet to get even one blister which seems to always happen with new running shoes. The only down side to switching to shoes like this is that it does take a little getting used to. I have to be careful trail running so I don't come down too hard on pointy rocks since my feet are used to having so much more cushion- but to me having a ultra light weight, comfortable and breathable shoe is worth toughing up my feet a bit.
