Ride Nitrane Contraband Snowboard Binding - 2009

Improving on the Contraband design, Ride made the Nitrane Contraband Snowboard Binding for rippers who demand lightweight performance, limitless flex options, and more pop than the top forty charts. The Nitrane's V-Grip strap provides a super snug boot grip and makes it ridiculously quick and easy to strap in or out. Add the Wedgie 2.5 and the 4.0 fixed position, and you've got a Ride binding with more freestyle potential than an underground hip-hop show.

  • ContraBand Chassis System lowers weight and makes strapping in and out easier
  • Custom Flex Ankle Strap delivers lots of cushy padding and the limitless flex options provided by internal sliders that you can adjust on the fly
  • V-Grip Strap is more grippy and supportive and makes it super easy to get in and out of your binding
  • Wedgie 2.5 Footbed with Smooth Ride Landing Pads increase pop thanks to a freestyle-specific angle (comes with optional Wedgie 4.0 Footbed for maximum pop)
  • Power UL Ratchets reduce weight, don't freeze up, and crank harder than your rock collection
  • FreeFlex Highback is freestyle specific, lightweight, adjustable, flexible and supportive where you need it

Bottom Line: Put the power of Ride Nitrane in your shredding.

Nitrane FTW!!!

By:

I recently purchased these bindings and I love them. I have rode them about 4 or 5 times so far and I have never had my board feel so responsive. The one problem I see people having is the strap snapping. I haven't had this problem yet but my guess is they will fix this for next season.

I agree, i love the binding it just sucks that it breaks right at the strap by the webbing every time.I only had them for a month and I returned them and got a pair of the regular contrabands without the webbing and i believe these should hold strong because they don't have that weakness the nitranes have

These will not fall off on the lift. you NEED to properly adjust the binding to your boot prior to riding. this will ensure correct fitment and binding performance.

Great Binding, but...

By:
January 14, 2010

I have to echo everyone else and say that these bindings absolutely rock. I have nothing different in the positive sense than to agree with Mr. TidBit's review, as he covered it all.The big problem, though, is that I'm another guy that had their bindings break. I had them on mountain for 4 days, and those 4 days were absolutely awesome. At the end of 4 days though, the binding broke exactly in the same spot as everyone else - right at the base of the webbing on the outer strap.Clearly this is a manufacturing defect, but you can still buy with confidence - Dogfunk will take care of you (and they took care of me), and so will Ride, if you're one of the unfortunate ones to get a weak strap. If you want, if your V-Grip breaks, you can have Dogfunk send you a V-Strap (the contraband strap), which will fit in the Nitrane, if you really want to keep them. All in all, great binding, but I wish it was a bit more rugged. For my riding style, there's no way I can deal with constant replacements, so I switched up to the Delta.

Gotta Love Warranties

By:
February 1, 2010

The Nitrane Contraband's are a tough set of bindings to recommend RIGHT NOW. I have to admit they are a great pair of bindings when it comes to comfort and style, and the 4.0 Wedgie footbeds are money. My legs never get tired and I don't feel any pain with the footbeds.

The cons:I ordered a pair this fall and I broke my first pair the second day on the mountain. Surprise, surprise, I broke the v-strap at the exact same spot everyone else has been breaking them. If anyone has tried or seen the original contrabands you will notice the v-strap is very flexible. The Nitrane has a much stiffer, pliable v-strap on the inside of your foot. Not sure I care for that design decision. It seems the change in material strength might be causing the tearing? Anyways. I just broke my second pair, this time, on the release button of my ankle strap. That's what happens when they're made of plastic and you're riding in negative temps all the time.

Bottom Line:Until Ride fixes the weak v-strap, don't be surprised WHEN you break it. Either way, I am returning my second pair and getting another pair of Nitrane Contrabands because WHEN THEY WORK, they are the best bindings I've used. Thanks DOGFUNK for the great return policy.

Yes, they will work with your burton board. The disc that comes with Ride bindings works on Burton Boards with the 3D pattern. There are directions in the box that will show you how to do it.

I Love 'em

By:
December 21, 2009

Extremely light weight. Flexible, yet very responsive. All metal ratchet parts, made to last. No troubles with any aspect of the bindings. I love them.

It did take me about 50 minutes to set them up them and dial them in to fit perfect with my boots the first time I used them. After that it was all gravy. Highly recommended.

Note: After a couple months of hard riding the toe strap did start to thin out and bend/tear. Fortunately both Ride and Dogfunk have amazing customer service and totally took care of me. Best bindings ever, if they fix that peticular durability issue.

Oh, also I decided to widen my stance as wide as I could(162 board) and used the wedgie 4.0 footbeds. It took about 1 run to get used to the change and I'm never going back. Very comfortable and natural feeling and I can hit huge jumps and stomp the landing with no pain whatsoever. Works like a charm.

New Outer Piece

By: Dogfunk.com Employee
October 22, 2009

You're not going to see this new piece on any of the pictures anywhere on the web or in the Ride Catalog. This piece was added to the outside of the Nitrane right before production.

This new Yellow piece will 100% make sure that your boot cannot slide out of the binding.

Nope... you can't get the piece separately to put on last year's bindings. It's something that is riveted on the 2010 versions of the Contraband.

Im looking to purchase these bindings but not sure what size i should go for. I have size 11 Forum Destroyer Boots. Should I go for Large or X-large? also if i called you guys to make the order, would it be possible for them to send an extra set of of the v-grips or v-band in case it does eventually break?

Contraband or contrasuck!

By:
December 29, 2009

I've uploaded some photos of my first set of nitranes.

I ride a Rome Agent 160 with Ride Contraband Nitrane Bindings size 9-11 and Ride FUL boots size 11.

Pro's

The Bindings overall are very responsive and very comfortable. They load quickly, which is the whole concept... My buddies who ride burton bindings or whatever take twice if not three times longer to get in their bindings strapped... i get off the chair, stick my foot in, strap once, crank it and go.

The Wedgies are pretty sick especially when you ride a wide stance. They help support your knees very well by aligning them up with your body so there is less pressure.

Cons

The Toe strap broke about 6 weeks into the season. Luckily i bought dogfunk 100% guarantee. I've already received my second set.. I went for a second set because i believe in these Bindings. They are kick ass-
IMPORTANT-
If you check the pics you notice they broke in an area where the webbing is molded into the toe strap... This makes the toe strap weaker in those areas... The straight up contrabands have no webbing there for their toe strap is a lot more durable. This is something I hope they fix in the 2011 model because thats why the toe strap broke... My buddy bought the regular contrabands and he has no wear. They broke on both my bindings same day... Luckily i could still ride for the next couple days until i got my new pair in. SO I WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED ON THE SECOND SET! THESE BINDINGS ARE SICK. Dont be afraid if you buy from dogfunk or any where with a sick warranty program. You'll be taken care of.

2. They take a bit to set up... But by the second pair i set them up in about 15minutes because i knew what i wanted.

3. This is minor but some times the strap gets stuck on the leather covering where the strap slips through when you ratchet down.

___

OVERALL _ SEXY BINDINGS! I'd RECOMMEND TO A FRIEND! JUST DONT RIDE AS HARD AS I DO!

Who needs two straps?

By: Dogfunk.com Employee
October 7, 2009

I was lucky enough to finish out my 2009 season on a pair of Nitrane bindings last season. As far as I'm concerned, this is the only set of bindings that I need for the 2010 season.

Compared to the regular Contraband binding the Nitrane has:

* Taller, slightly stiffer highback
* Adjustable Ankle Strap
* New V-Grip Strap
* Wedgie footbeds

The new highback is great, because it's not super stiff like the Alpha or CAD, but it's definitely responsive and drives when you need to but is still playful when you want it to be.

The Ankle strap is great, you'll find it on the CAD binder as well. I rode the Nitrane with the RFL boot and man were those boots stiff to start out. So I adjusted the Ankle strap on the Nitrane to be as soft as possible to balance that out. As the RFL started to break down and soften up, I started to stiffen the ankle strap up to keep the flex right where I liked it.

I didn't notice any huge differences with the V-Grip compared to the regular V-Strap. They both do exactly what you want them to do, hold your boot down and in place in the tray. I never experienced any issues with the strap moving or my boots moving at all.

Wedgie Footbeds, to clarify... the new contraband has these as well... I meant compared to the 08/09 model. I've had some knee problems the past few seasons. Had to have a lateral release, cartilage cleanup and a plica removed from my left knee. I also tore the meniscus in my right knee a couple of seasons back.

The wedgie beds saved my knees last season.. I ended up using the 4.0 bed on my front binding and the 2.5 on my rear. The angles took enough stress off my knees that they didn't ache, didn't tire so quickly and allowed me to ride the entire day without any problems. Everyone can benefit from these wedgie beds, not just those of us with bum knees. Check out the video Ride did and you'll see why that is.

http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=5498178&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=0&show_portrait=0&color=ff9933

With how adjustable and reliable this binding is, I will be riding it on all of my decks for 2010.

In case you do come back (I did email this to you as well).

Yes they will work very well with the Phase boots. The only thing that I would suggest is that if you’re a size 9, go with the 9-11 and if you’re an 11 go with the 11-13. DC boots have a bit more bulk to them in the shell and with the sizing ride uses it can create some hot or pinch spots from maxing out the straps if you’re in the middle of two sizes. Other than that you should be good to go.

Hey Streblo,

Thanks, to answer your question take a look at the three pictures I just uploaded. There is a new piece on the outside of the Nitrane that you won't see in any of the pictures online. It's a slight extension that has been riveted in to guarantee that your boot cannot slip out of the outer part of the tray.

Also, notice the adjustments on the bottom of the tray. There are several that allow you to extend the strap over your boot and widen or make the fit of the V-strap narrower. So not matter what the volume of your boot, you can secure it in place without having to worry. The whole idea behind the V-strap is that if you hold the big toe down, you hold the boot down.

Place your foot flat on the ground, then just kind of tap it like you're keeping the beat to a song. You should notice that you're big toe is the first part of your foot that will touch the top of your shoe. Take the heel of your other shoe and just place it gently over the big toe of the one you were tapping (you don't have to put much pressure at all) Now try to tap your foot again. You shouldn't be able to lift that foot up now and that is what the V-Strap is going to do for you while you're riding.

I spent 5 months on this binding last season and rode it everywhere. It is not just a quick park binding at all... you get great performance all over the mountain in any condition.

October 21, 2009

hey, great review... i was thinking of switching from 09 burton triads to these for this season... i think the obvious question people who have never tried these have is one that concerns the security your boot will have inside the binding, especially if you tend to ride hard, take big tables/kickers, or are constantly jibbing and bonking which in turn will add some abuse to your bindings... i want to be sure there is no jostling about of the boot whether i'm just cruising, i'm jibbing, i'm jumping, or i'm charging... my big fear is my boot slipping out when doing some tree tailtaps or during big landings... my other concern is one of comfort in the toestrap... no pressure points at all? is it more an "empty" feeling if you get what i mean (like you don't feel a toe strap at all)? i know people were saying last year's model was great as a park or urban or jib setup... do you think this year's will be good for all mountain riding on top of being a good quick park binding? thanks for the help...

V-Strap Adjustments

By: Dogfunk.com Employee
October 22, 2009

These two adjustments on the bottom of the tray are key. You can extend the v-strap and make it narrower or wider depending on the volume of your boot. This along with the adjustment on the ankle strap and the new outer piece guarantee that your boot stays in place no matter what you're riding.

Anyboard that has The Channel by Burton can only have Burton or Forum bindings on it. The disc that comes with your board will only work in those bindings or you can snag a pair of Burton EST bindings to use on it. Unfortunately Ride bindings will not work on Burton boards with The Channel.

If so, will ride be making any parts available to just mount the piece on the current production?

Also, the Nitranes in the pic look very Lime in color...are those the same scheme as the Acid Yellow? Or is that just how the yellow looks in digital?

Not meant for big feet or big boots

By:
December 30, 2009

I bought a pair of these bindings about a month ago, but because of my size 14 feet I decided to return them. The larges do say 11-13, but they will work with a size 14.The problem I found was that while I could have made them work, they lost their functionality of being a quick in binding, because with large boots I had to spend time adjusting the front strap every time to the center of my toes. The large boot would not allow the front strap to center on its own.
