One of my boots leaks. I bought them because I'm living in a secluded and rainy area for the next three months and I won't have time before I leave to return them by mail from Canada and have a new pair delivered. So that kind of sucks. The fur on the inside is nice, although it absorbs and spreads the leak faster. Oh well... you win some you lose some!

Weather coated canvas is a treated canvas, usually with a form of wax that allows the material to repel water.

The coating does make these boots waterproof. It is probably some sort of plastic based coating. The sole looks as though it would not provide the best traction, but if you're walking on cleared sidewalks you should be all set.
