Picked up a pair of these probably 4-5 season ago. Do they have the heat molding thing in them? or is that a recent addition?

That is a rather recent addition. You could call Salomon just to make sure. Here is their number 1-800-225-6850

Question about the moldable liner.I just picked up a pair of the Malamutes, wore them for a day, and couldn't wait to take the boots off. I got a pressure point on my rear foot, over the first joint of the big toe. Also got had another annoyance on the inside of my rear leg's shin. Couple days later, rode again, and 2-3 runs later, was swapping back to my old boots, this time pressure point on my foot moved to the front leg as well.Wearing them in shops, everything felt great. Anybody think molding will truely get ride of the pressure points? Or should I start looking for another pair of boots?

yeah molding will help a lot, go to a shop and have em do it, just make sure you stand up during the process so the pressure is distributed accuratly and evenly...and if theres a pressure spot on the toes, then ask em if they have a toe box expander that you can wear during the heat molding process, that helps A LOT!...and if the boots are hurting your shins then you might want to lace em up looser as you go up the boot

I have to say that I will never buy another snowboard boot. I've had the malamutes for 4 seasons and 200+ days of hard charging and they get more comfortable every day of riding. I"m 6'4 240 lbs and lay every ounce of it into every turn and I revel in the stiff response I get. From powder to groomers to hard pack steeps I swear by these.

I'm a big fan of stiff boots, and these are definitely stiff.
I was worried that they were too much so at the beginning, but now that they're breaking in (6+ days) they're pretty good.
Even without heat molding them, they fit well enough right out of the box to spend all day riding in them for multiple days.
Had to put the stiffening inserts in them to keep the fabric from bending inwards and rubbing around my ankle.
The insole is great, but I will probably have to get an aftermarket one to take up some of the room in the boot.
The lacing system works well, but I'm a little worried about the durability with as hard as I have to pull on the laces to get the boot to conform to my foot.
All in all, a comfy, stiff boot, that just needs a little tweak here and there to get it to perfection.

On my second pair of Malamutes, F24's in between. Salomon snowboard program has really shined in the boot department. If you have wide feet with good arch than these are for you. Other companies make decent product but Salomon has really come through with these. 10 years and counting the Malamute really sets the freeride standard.
Great Boots

Best pair of snowboard boots I have ever owned! I have been riding for almost 20 years and these have been the best. I like very responsive yet comfortable and warm boots. It is hard to find all three features, but these boots have it all. I noticed that some others reviews stated there was no break in period, I wish, mine defiantly required break in, but now they are great. These boots will actually make you a better rider. I hope Salomon keeps making these because I will buy another pair when I have work this pair out.

Nice stiff but comfortable boot. Basically felt pretty comfy right out of the box with no painful break-in. The lacing system is a bit overly complex and took some getting used to but it allows you to dial in great fit. With the internal lace and heel strap I was able to get a good fit without the pain I get in some boots when they are on tight. So if you hate lacing up boots (I was sick of cut fingers) these are for you. Not quite as easy as the BOA system but much better for custom fit. Only issue I had was with my thin shins it was hard to get the top part of the boot tight initially. A little extra muscle when tightening the top did the trick for the most part.

Will Salomon Malamute boots work well with Burton CO 2 bindings?

Burton products are extremely proprietary. Malamutes will probably work well with them as Burton bindings are designed to push in on the lower calf section. Straight back boots DO NOT work well with Burton bindings. I recommend Nidecker or Rome bindings. Friends don't let friends ride Hurton.
Awesome Boot

This by far the best boot I have owned. It wasn't sure about it at first because of the stiff feel, but as soon as I got on the slopes those thoughts were erased. The response is great...I use more of my legs like it should be instead of my feet. I'm sold on the lacing system, and the way my heel stays put. I wish I would of bought two pairs, so when I wear these out I have a back up.
Stiff boot with comfort

awesome. amazing. superb. just about any synonym of those can describe these boots. great support, comfortable, warm. heels stay glued to the footbed and the comfort is unmatched in any other boot i've worn. I think salomon pulled out all the stops and gave this boot full throttle. lacing takes half the time it use to with salomon's quick lace design. did great on my first day of powder and groomers. couldn't have asked for anything more.
These Boots Are BOMBER!!!

Almost like combining a hummer and a subaru justy. these boots are so light yet don't compromise anywhere. the fit and finish of these boots are befitting of the price, as they are properly suited for a kings foot. so dang comfortable. i am looking forward to seeing what salomon can pull off next year, these boots set the poll very high

This is probably the stiffest boot I've ever stepped into. I didn't get a chance to ride on them, but they are top notch quality. I've found in the past that a stiffer boot means more discomfort, but not for the Malamute. Salomon knows what they are doing! I didn't feel a single point of discomfort no matter which way I flexed, dipped, or twisted in these suckers. It gives you rock solid support with a super cush liner that feels like cashmere. I could only afford the Synapse, which are much softer, and not quite as nice but I wish I could have had the coin for these Malamutes, I would definitely pick them up!

I'm on my 5th pair of Malamutes. These are the best boots I have ever worn; stiff, responsive, stiff, comfortable, stiff (did I say stiff?).
The liner doesn't pack much. There is a footbed that is almost as good as superfeet included in this boot.
I get 60-75 days of use on these boots, which is typical for snowboard boots for me. Those are long, ski patrol days. I'm 215 lbs, and hard on gear. I hike on rocks in these boots. Through all that these boots are comfortable, reasonably dry, and ride predictably.
