Big, gnarly terrain beware.

For years, the Salomon Malamute Snowboard Boot has been a favorite of freeriders because of its stiff, no-compromise feel. The new Malamute carries on this tradition but allows you to customize the feel of the boot with an adjustable heel strap and removable j-bars.

  • Super-stiff Asymmetrical Flex Shell for added edge control and support
  • Power liner lets you customize fit and boot feel with heel strap and removable j-bars
  • Powerlace Pro centers your boot tongue and laces, and locks your boot—all in one pull

Sweet boats

Malamutes are stiff (the good kind), light, and steezy... Only issue is they have this rough sharkskin like material in the heel that is made to lock it down. Well it does too good of a job an chafes the skin on your heels like crazy and makes hiking uncomfortable. Hope they wear down soon...

Hi i have worn burton ions for years and just had a blowout. I was looking to replace them with more ions but someone suggested these.... I am size 12 in the burtons what would i be in these and what are your thoughts on them compared to ions?

Responded on

I would highly recommend the Burton Ion for two reasons. First, it has upper and lower independent lacing, Two, they size the boot down slightly so you won't get any toe drag. I have the Imperial in size 12 on a wide board and they are amazing. The lacing points are also flush to the boot, i.e. they don't stick out like the Malamute. Hope this helps.

I owned Malamute till 5 years ago.
Then, switched to F22 for Freestyle.
I am using Salomon Boots more than 10 years.
This year, I was looking for F24 for BC Freeride.
But, F24 was discontinued couple years ago.
So, I picked Malamute again.
Why not pick other company's boots?
Last 5 years start seeing Salomon Boots inspired system in the market.
According to my memory, Salomon is the first company who realized normal lace style has problem.
And they innovated Locking lace hook and Gripped lace system more than 10 years ago.
Even now, this system is the most simplest and reliable system in the market.
Only one thing to Salomon marketing team, back F24 in the catalogue again.

I wear a size 27 (men's 9) in the Nitro Team boots and a 8.5 in the Burton Ions, what would I be in the Malamute.

Responded on

Thanks Dean but in Mondo sizing I'm a 27 in Nitro but a 26.5 in Burton. What gives? Which would the malamute be closer to in Mondo?

Sickness to be sure

Gotta say- I haven't ridden this year's model, bit I'm still rockin' the Mooty from 2004 and they still hold up.
