Sessions added a secret weapon to the Sessions D3O Men's Crew. The D3O elbow protectors are pliable and move with your body until you slam them into something hard. The molecular structure of D3O locks down under force so your elbows are protected from impact. The fabric also wicks moisture from the body so you don't wind up feeling cold and clammy on the mountain.
- Moisture-wicking fabric pulls sweat away from your skin and dries quickly
- D3O elbow pads stiffen upon impact so they're soft until you smack something
- Thumb holes keep your sleeves in place

Good base layer, not such great armor
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
This piece is quite mixed. First, the good: the shirt part is very nice. The material is comfortable, stretchy, and has long enough sleeves that the thumbholes work well. I have the medium -- I'm 5'10 with about a 6 foot arm-span.
Next, the not so good. The straps on the arms seems completely useless. Fortunately, the stitching can be cut off and they can be easily removed. The position of the pads is quite poor (at least for my arms). The elbow joint of the pads does not line up with a human elbow, leading to a somewhat uncomfortable shirt with the pads in, and less protection than you would initially suspect.
I've taken to wearing it just as a base layer without the straps or pads, where it performs admirably.
NB: Looking at the Sessions website, the new versions of the shirt seem to have fixed the issues that I've had with it, but I don't have any first hand experience with them.
