This is one of the best fitting helmets. I have tried so many, even children's, because I have a small head. This is the only one that fits me properly. There is an adjustable strap in the back of the helmet that rests at the bottom of your head. It lets you tighten or loosen the head space in the hemet, for the perfect head hugging fit. It's light and comfortable as well. Love the vent system, makes it weather versatile. The only downside is that everyone and their mother seems to have it. Seriously, I have seen a lot of parents in this helmet, not to mention my own. Its popularity is only based on the fact that it's such a reliable helmet though. I can't knock it since I feel that it is one of the best helmets out there right now. They just need to release more color combos. So rock it like no one else, and you're golden!

I have a big head and this helmet protects my noddle without pressing on my skull. Also the vents are great and prevent overheating in the glades. I have yet to see a day this season that I needed to close them very comfortable noddle cover!!!

My Oakely A-frames are too tight on the helmet but crowbars might be a different story. My knowledge on the matter is that smith helmets are best with smith googles.

Hey.
I have had the Smith Holt helmet and the Maze helmet and I use crowbars 99% of the time. No gaper issues (check my pic in my profile: holt + crowbars). The Variant is def a 'skier' helmet though. Check out the Maze or Holt for sure.

Bought this helmet a few weeks ago...fits awesome. Tried them all on and for comfort nothing else comes close. I took a reasonable stack today and the helmet broke after three wears.
I expected the helmet to with stand the impact i had... i will be sending the helmet back to smith, so we will see what there warranty is like. Love the helmet but i expected a bit more resistance...
