Description

Protecting your dome all year long.

It's surprising how inexpensive the Smith Gage Ski Helmet is considering you can use it all year long to protect your head-smashing adventures on skis and your bike. The Bombshell construction is certified to handle both icy whiplashes and dirty face-plants. The AirEvac 2 ventilation system drives warm air away from your goggles so you don't fog them up with your hot head. Its Airflow Climate Control pushes heat out of twelve vents so you stay cool when you work up a sweat on the mountain.

The Gage's Lifestyle Fit System has an elastic band that conforms to your noggin no matter the size. Its Bombshell ear pads provide plenty of warmth in the winter, and you can remove them when the hot sun beats down on you in the summer. They are also compatible with Skullcandy audio systems (sold separately) so you can rock out to your favorites during an incredible jib-fest with your friends. If the weather gets too cold for you, slide a beanie under this helmet for a bit of extra warmth and comfort.

  • AirEvac 2 ventilation with 12 vents
  • Airflow Climate Control
  • Lifestyle Fit System
  • Bombshell ear pads with Skullcandy audio system compatibility (sold separately)

great helmet looks great very minimal for those that don't want to look like they are wearing an astronauts helmet around. light and comfy. only gripe is the ear pieces suck.

Functional, light, comfortable, stylie

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Great helmet. The integration with any Smith goggle makes it even better. Brim is just the perfect size and keeps snow from getting on top your gogs. Looks good too. Only drawback I've had, is the ear flaps tend to come detached easily compared to some other brands. My go-to brain bucket.

Great Product

This was my first purchase of a ski helmet and it was a wise choice. A friend of mine who is an Olympic skier commented that it's a great helmet for the price. I haven't had any issues with it yet. Fits great. Comfortable. Looks cool.

Great helmet

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share

I bought this helmet as a gift for my boyfriend. He has a rather large head (7 5/8 hat) and the Large fit perfect. The helmet was decently priced and is warm enough to wear without a hat underneath. I think his only concern is there isn't a lot of venting so on warm days he may overheat. It's been cold so he hasn't run into that issue. An overall win!

First Helmet / Great Choice

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

A long time skier - finally adapted to get smart and protect my head. Great helmet - perfect fit, and I like the ability to take out the insulated pieces and re-purpose for a bike helmet or for other outdoor activities. As a ski helmet have only used for a few days - but days when the temp was 7 to 9 degrees F - head was kept warm all day without a beanie or any additional items other than what was in the helmet. I definitely recommend this helmet!

Awsome helmet!

Nice helmet, cheap clip

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Was loving the helmet. Takes a little bit of tinkering to get the internal snaps just right for your head - no problems there. However on my second day using the helmet the goggle clip in the back snapped off - Probably my fault, but still annoying. FYI it's just plastic - take care when using

Do you guys and girls remove all that extra velcro & liner stuff that snaps in on the inside? I found that it allows me to wear a beanie under the helms but was concerned if removing all those things makes the helmet ineffective...

I have this helmet and have worn it with the velcro and liner and everything and without it all as well. I haven't noticed an difference in how effective the helmet has been. You are fine to wear it with or without!

sStylish and relatively inexpensive

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Great helmet. It has all the basic features. Fits well and integrates with goggles channeling air down through foam to help with fog as well as across the head for ventilation. For the price, it's great. I can't see paying what other helmets are charging unless you're looking into new and unique technology like MIPS etc.

This helmet is about style. I like the look of it. small brim is good for shielding a bit from snow and branches. My pic makes it look slim; but, this helmet definitely has a wide look to it. The large Smith I/OX pairs well.

Steel Oceanic

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

After several years of skiing, I decided to pick up a helmet because I don't like wearing beanies. Its a helmet, nothing particularly grand. The vents at the top keep you warm without over heating, one particular issue is the ear pieces and head band. The ear pieces tend to pop out of place but they can easily be pushed back in, and after two straight days of skiing they haven't popped out again. The head band is held in with Velcro so it can shift easily however that too didn't give me issues on the slopes. Bottom line it does the job while keeping your head warm.

So shoddy...

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I don't know if I got a defective one, but the ear pieces fall out, and something in the back of it stabs my head. Miserable. Practically not wearable.

Responded on

Look on the inside of your helmet for a small sticker with manufactured date. If your helmet was made in 2012 it may have a slightly different set of pads that velcro into the top and front of helmet. I have two of these Gage helmets... one from 2013 and one from 2012. The 2013 made helmet has slightly thicker pads.

I also could feel a bit of the hard helmet in the 2012. I switched inside velcro pieces and it went away.

Smith is a great company and has always been super easy and quick to work with. Call or write and see if you can get an updated set of inserts.

Does the job

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I got this helmet last winter and have only used it for skiing and snowboarding. It fits nicely, keeps my head warm, and has kept me safe so far, which is very important! The brim on it is small, but I thought it would be a little smaller than it is. I didn't like it at first but I'm getting used to it.

I wear it with the ear pads and I've had an issue with them falling out... quite a bit. I've tried wearing a beanie under it instead but it's too tight. The helmet has also gotten scratched really easy and the goggle lock broke at the beginning of this season.

I wear it with I/OS goggles that match the helmet and have been happy with their fit together and the way it looks.

I have had other smith helmets that I like better and will go with a different one next time, mostly because I think I'd like a different design better with more ventilation, more secure ear pads, and less "shiny" so it doesn't get scratched looking so easy.

Does the job

Yes!

This is my favourite Smith Helmet. Simple, warm, stylish and comfy. I love how the elastic piece in the back hugs my head and keeps the helmet from moving around. The brim fits the larger I/OX goggle super well.
