After years and years of skiing without I finally broke down and bought a helmet. I guess after having a kid I decided I needed to be a good influence not to mention I don't think her mother would be happy if she had to put up with two of us drooling all the time.
I thought the fit was great, the vents didn't ever give me frozen head nor did I feel like I got overheated in there. I went with the compatible Smith goggles so the whole set up with nice and tight. There's a slick little headphone compartment on the ear covers that's a nice touch too.
I'd recommend this helmet to anyone, especially new dads who are taking too much heat from the wife!

I never wanted to wear a helmet when I started snowboarding because it just wasn't cool and it meant you sucked. I wear my helmet every time I go now because that whole idea where if your not ok with dying from not wearing a helmet your not cool. I have taken many crashes where I've been so glad to have a helmet on. It really is such a good looking helmet and there is pretty much no gapper gap. Buy whatever size fits your head normally with the liner in it and if you want to wear a beanie under instead, take out the liner and earpads and shred the mountain in style. I would highly highly recommend getting this helmet.

I've used this for about 2 seasons now.. it doesn't really fit my head perfectly but if i wear a beanie and take the ear pads off it works. ..One time my back head hit a rail pretty hard and this thing saved from a concussion. I like the vents.. there is a pad that blocks the vents if it rains and u can take it off if its hot... Good helmet, fits my goggles.. Oakley Crowbar

Simple and extremely affordable helmet from Smith. Great fit with the Smith I/O goggles. Felt very warm and comfortable at all times, even in -20 Japan conditions, also well ventilated. Didn't lash out on the audio option, however it is nice to have the flexibility of adding this down the track. Overall, a good entry level helmet with the 98% of the features anybody would need.
fits perfect

I'm using the holt with my Dragon Mace goggles.
Works great. No gap.
Good fixed ventilation and best of all- a low profile.

This helmet is great. The fit is just right and I barely notice I have it on while I'm wearing it. Not to mention it is also a great looking helmet. No complaints
seriously, what else would you buy?

i've been skiing in the Holt, with and without the audio option, for 3 seasons now. if you're into skiing with music it's definitely worth paying for the audio shot. i haven't skied in the Maze helmet from smith, i have tried it on, but i still think i'm going to go with another Holt when i buy a new helmet. it's just simple, steezy, and protective. not to mention warm. maybe check out the Maze if you're worried about the weight, but you CAN NOT go wrong with this helmet. way better than other Giro's i've owned.

I purchased the Large, as I have a rather fat melon, and it fits perfectly. I would highly recommend measuring the circumference of your head for sizing purposes. If you find yourself in the middle of a size range, go with the bigger size if you usually wear a beanie or balaclava (although the Holt is plenty warm and you might not even need any insulation- note the ear pads).
Pros: It fits well with any smith brand goggles, or most brands for that matter (I use this with my scope pros and they have yet to fog up on me). It is warm while being well ventilated. It has a convenient and easy to use goggle clip on the back. It saves brain cells for less money hard to beat price.
Cons: The chin strap can be a little uncomfortable in cold winds, but that can be easily remedied with a layer of fleece. Not the most slimming of cranial accessories (especially the Large in matte white) which could be a problem if looking sleek on the slopes is a big deal for you.
Overall: worth it.
I liked it.

hey just wondering if this helmet is headphone compatible. i got the R.E.D.phones that zip out of my old one easily and was just wondering if they would be just as easy to zip into the earpads of this helmet?
Christian DeHaas

No, the earpads don't unzip at all. You can buy skullcandy earpads for these that are way nice. I have them and the sound is great and it has a clip on the wire that can play, pause, skip, go backward and even answer calls.

False!..... lol i bought this helmet not knowing whether or not the ear pads zipped. the helmet is awesome and looks great and the Earpads DO unzip. there is a zipper along the bottom of the earpads and my R.E.D. phones slipped right into each ear pad. zipped it back up and you cant even tell there are headphones in it and it sounds awesome!

Will the electric EG2s fit with this helmet?

Hey,
It will work, but won't be great. If you want a really great/flush fit with this helmet go with a Smith goggle. All of the goggles are designed with the helmets in mind for a perfect fit.

I would definitely get either Smith gogs or get some spy gogs. either way they will fit great.

Took a hard fall my first time back on snowblades in 3 years and hit my head pretty hard on the surface. Went out and got this helmet the next day and 1. I felt safer. 2. I was more willing to do tricks at the park. 3. It keeps my head warm without a beanie or anyhting else on under it. 4. Kept me from rolling around on the snow for 10 minutes after bouncing my head off the snow surface.
My first helmet and I'm loving it for a quick purchase and no reaserch. ALSO. I wear my goggles on the outside, my old Spys fit it well but im up grading to Smith goggles this year.
i'd have to try it too

the thing about fit that's hard is that everybody has a differently shaped head. and mine is really really really round, almost like a basketball, so it's tough to say. so i'm judging only from the photograph but that's so cool. it's like they are illustrating the birth of the universe.

So after looking at the complete K2, Bern, Smith, Giro and RED lineup, Smith helmets seemed to have pretty much the best build quality and their "shaping" fit my head better than most. The Colt is a lower-end model but I found the fit on my head to be perfect the moment I put it on... Even the pricier models took a bit of adjusting to get to that point.
So I bought this one. It vents my goggles (REALLY, really well) and I don't even use Smith goggles (yet). So buy it. It's sturdy, comfy, and just the right amount of warm.

hows the fit
i like wearing my tuque and goggles under my helmet tried a small,it was to small but for the helmet to fit and look good and not fall off, wat size
i just grew out of small so should i get a medium
Christian DeHaas
Member since
Yeah get the medium. But you can take out the liner in the helmet and use it like that and get a small. I have a small with out liner and wear a beanie and goggles underneath
Get's the job done. Color was off.

Loved the graphics of the Navy love boat (I'm a naval architect), but it looked closer to purple than blue. So I went with a different helmet. The fit was alright, not as great as a pricier helmet, but you get what you pay for.
