Check out the Skullcandy Single-Shot Helmet Audio Kit for a one-purpose auditory answer. The 3.5mm jack is compatible with all audio devices –even that tape player you’ve been hanging onto. An in-line volume control lets you turn it down on the fly when you want to hear the park groupies go gaga.

When I use these with my galaxy S2 (android)...
When I use these with my galaxy S2 (android) I can only pause the music when the screen is off (Can't play, skip etc.), if I wake the screen, even through the lock screen, I can control the phone no problem. Any ideas?
sounds like just a peculiarity of how the two work together. Doubt there's any way around it
First time with tunes on the hill
I installed these in my Variant Brim over my last ski trip, and used them to play back songs from my iPhone. Good idea, imperfect execution tho:
1) Sounds pretty good, surprisingly good even. Balanced, with a lot more bottom end than I expected.
2) Quick disconnect is really nice when stopping for a beer / snack / snog.
3) Simple controls work well, even in gloved hands
1) The added bulk in the Variant's ear pad / liner makes the helmet pinch my ears slightly. Not enough to require a change of helmet or audio system, but enough to make me "annoyed"
2) The button doesn't answer iPhone calls (although it does work as a speaker / mic once you answer the phone). This means that a ringing phone requires a dive into the layers to press "answer." Not a big problem, as when I am skiing, I don't like to answer the #$%$ phone... only J#$k@#$es do that ;-)
Overall, totally loved it. The ease of control meant I could rip with my tunes... and still convince my wife I was paying attention to her!
Good in helmet, controls work mostly, needs more bass
These are good. Point 1. do not use your "shake to shuffle" setting on your iPhone when listening to tunes while skiing bumps...hilarious/pain in tha butt, 2) These are good, although not quite sure why the controls work sometimes and not others - I think it has to do with my phone tho, 3) Could use some more bass, especially for the booming tunes, but at the same time, this is kind of a safety feature since you're not completely isolated from the world around you, which is good at high speed. Still would like more bass...
Don't Do IT
The product does not activate or control my ipod nano - other than volume.
Save you $ and wait for something that work. I am on my second pair - and they don't work either!!
great sound, well worth it
I love skiing with music. For some reason I can't ski with ear buds in my ears. It seems to affect my balance. Having these however is great because i have music rockin' and i can still hear my skis on the snow and other things around me as well. I had the older version which were just the pads with speakers permanently in them. I think these ones are a big improvement. The integration is smoother, my old plugs would sometimes come out. Additionally the button to stop the music/hang up the phone is much less likely to accidentally get pushed than was the previous model. I'm using these with the Smith Maze helmet.
Got these for Christmas, they are super cool but they don't fit my smith holt helmet. Maybe it's cause my helmet is pretty old. Sad day.

are the earbuds the same size as the giro ones?
I compared them in a store and they're the same size.

I have a smith variant that is pre-2010. It seems that another part is required to install these speakers. The removable earpads that connect around the back of the helmet need to be compatible with the speaker system. The earpads on my helmet do not have pockets to hold the speakers.

I have a Smith Holt Helmet from 2007 so it's pretty old, what year did smith start making their helmets compatible?

Does anyone else try to double-click to skip the song, but it reads it as a single click and just pauses the song?
The double-click skips on my boyfriend's iPhone, but only pauses on my Blackberry. It might work differently with different devices?
works as described!
works just like the iphone ear buds that come with the phone. these allow you to pause and skip songs and turn the volume up and down. controls are suitable with gloves on. The only down side is the lack of bass.

i boutgh one, but i'm not finding how to intall in the helmet. Any clue?
There should be little zippered pockets in your ear pads that came with the helmet. Take a closer look.
I looked but there is no zippered pockets in my ear pads. I though it was suposed to come with the audio kit, just like the pictute shown at Smiths website.
They do the job. Sound quality is okay, and they were really easy to install in my Smith helmet. I don't really like the tiny volume control because it's difficult to operate with gloves on, yet I find myself accidentally hitting it with my jacket all the time. However they've lasted through an entire season with no other issues...so, three stars for Skullcandy!
Awesome sound, mediocre build
I got these to listen to and control my Android phone (I use it for music and as a phone) with my smith variant helmet, the sound was great and I didn't have any of the problems others reported with having the controls not work (But I'm not a great skier and don't do much where the controls would get soaking wet), I did have to return my first pair because the spring on the clip of the audio control/mic broke but BC took care of it right away.
Will these fit in a TOOKS hat?
Will these fit in a TOOKS hat?
Although these came without installation instructions, install was easy. These work really well with the Smith Vantage helmet and are super easy to operate. Awesome combo. I can change volume with gloves on and easily change songs in a second. I wrapped the cord so that the controller sits nicely on the strap. My iPod is new all over again with these in my helmet. They are so worth it.
Good sound quality
very suprised how good they sound! had my doubts but overall these are a good buy. Very handy control on the cord allows you to change the volume, skip song, and pause.
great sound- poor quality
These headphones are a great idea it is just too bad that the quality of the controller is shoddy. The functions simply do not work. This is my third pair and they all have controller issues. By issues I mean they don't work!

does this work with you phone ? can you answer calls?
Not all phones, but if you have an iPhone it works wonderfully.
