Ultimate protection, fit, and airflow for the ultimate skier.

When it comes to protection, you refuse to settle with those uncomfortably stifling helmets that make for sub-par ski sessions. Strap on the Smith Vantage Helmet and experience comfortable protection like never before. Its innovative Hybrid SL shell construction combines Smith's bombshell ABS on the top of your head with a flyweight In-Mold technology around the sides so you get an optimized fit around your noggin that doesn't decrease durability. The all-new Aerocore Technology fully covers your dome with four Koroyd inserts that absorb more energy on an impact than normal inserts and that increase airflow without compromising your safety. The AirEvac 2 Ventilation provides constant airflow by moving chilly mountain air through external vents below the brim and pushing warm air out of 21 vents across your head. If you get too cold, you can close the vents with the dual regulator at the top of the helmet that's easy to switch, even with gloves on.

The Vantage truly provides a superior fit with its adjustable Boa FS360 Fit System, which has a full 360-degree halo design that offers both forward and lateral adjustments. The helmet's Nanosilver performance lining has antimicrobial features that keep it clean. Snapfit SL2 Ear Pads seal around your ears to give unbelievable warmth on stormy days, and you can remove them when you have a sunny sky to warm you. They also hold compatible Skullcandy ear buds so you can drop the sickest beats while you drop the sickest cliffs, or make a phone call to tell your boss you're too sick to come in.

How well does this integrate with the Dragon APX goggle?

Responded on

Mike Farrell ,
The Vantage should fit well with the APX Goggle by Dragon. It's an awesome helmet

Best Helmet I've Owned

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've been really Happy with the Smith Vantage. The BOA system makes it easy to adjust for just the right fit. The Vents are easy to open or close while skiing, and it keeps my head safe and warm.

I will more than likely buy a 2nd one , as I have over 300 days skiing on mine and feel it's good to replace helmets from time to time.

Anyone know how these fit with Electric EG2's?

They work great together I have the Vantage , and it worked great with the Electric Goggles.

Can anyone comment on using this helmet...

Can anyone comment on using this helmet for ski mountaineering? I don't fit into the 2 sizes of climbing helmets out there so I stick with ski helmets.

Its going to be really hot. I tend to sweat and there is noway I could wear this while going up, going down I could but, sometimes going up can be just as scary. What climbing helmets have you tried? What is your head circumference?

Responded on

Thanks Bill! So I've used my Smith variant on a few alpine\ice climbs and it was ok. I wear smith and giro helmets in large, not huge.. 62-63cm. As for climbing helmets I've owned and used, Petzl meteor, Petzl Ecrin roc, mammut skywalker, BD half dome.
I just went to every climbing shop in seattle and tried the new BD helmets and mammut el cap, rock riders. None are "deep" enough and sit too high on my head, thus slipping forward\backward. I've resolved to using bike helmets recently. You're right, spring summer touring is way too hot for ski helmets. But I could be into this one purely for the lighter weight, I try to tour wearing one but sometimes its required..

Hey Gabriel,

I am not seeing a restock order from Smith anytime within the near future.

Excellent style and comfort

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is the best helmet I've ever owned. I have the Smith iOX goggles and the interface is perfect (no gaper gap)0. It vents super well. I haven't had a single problem with fog all year. Smith stepped the game up over my old Variant helmet with a protective mesh on the vents and it's quieter, w/ less wind noise.

The best brain bucket around!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I probably should have gotten this sooner seeing how I'm probably not the expert skier that I think I am. First off this is probably the nicest looking helmet that's out there. Plenty of colors to go with your kit. The upgrades that they've made to the new version leave this lighter and give you more airflow options over the previous years Vantage. I always run pretty warm and end up sweating in whatever I'm wearing. I have yet to overheat in this. The BOA system is killer and will give you a snug fit even for the strangest head shapes. Also the earpads are removable and have a zippered pocket so you can drop some speakers. Bottom line this helmet is the way to go if you're looking for a comfortable, well ventilated lid.

Wicked Step Sister Chute

I have been staring at this line for years wondering if it has ever been skied and never seeing any tracks do it., apparently I was the first through in over 16 years. Fun double fall line chute over exposure and my Smith Vantage came in really handy down on the apron. The BOA fit system helped keep my bucket on when I tumbled and kept me safe. This is my favorite helmet out there. None better in overall comparison.

Integrates well with Smith goggles

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have used The Vantage for a few days now. I really like the Boa 360 adjustment.. adjusts, basically hugs your head (like a boa!) instead of the Variance which adjusts only from the back. I bought the I/O goggles with the helmet and definitely like the integration.. much tighter than my old system which allowed cold air to enter above goggles onto my forehead. Great system!

Warm and light

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Took this helmet on an alpine trip in the ADKs. Only time I wore my hat was around camp at night. The liner kept my head warm in single digit temps, and when it got too warm while touring, i just opened the vents to let heat and sweat escape. It's so light I couldn't even feel it on my head, and it's great to wear while touring because you can plow through branches and not worry about snagging anything. Great helmet! Get the I/0 goggles too!

My favorite helmet to date.

After trying out a large variety of helmets, this is by far the most comfortable and stylish helmet that I've worn. It's very light, almost making you forget that you're wearing a helmet.

The dual venting makes regulating your head's temperature as easy as sliding the individual buttons/levers. The brim sits flush with my Dragon NFX goggles, eliminating any gaper gap whatsoever.

overall its great

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The helmet fits great, and I like the ability to open and close the vents as conditions change on the mountain. A few things that could be better: The helmet liner arrived crooked. The tightening knob in the back bumps up against my jacket semi-frequently, not a big deal, but it does mean I'm tightening the knob throughout the day. Overall I really like it.

It's hard to look this good....

It's hard to look this good....

Looking good is important, but not as important as being safe.

Love this helmet.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is definitely my favorite helmet, its got great venting, a comfortable fit, no issues with a balaclava under it. It doesn't have slots for your ears on the ear flaps (which most soft ear helmets don't) so for the first couple days you'll need to get used to that. Everything else on this helmet is perfect.

First Time Helmet Guy

I finally wised up and purchased a helmet this season. I did my research, read reviews and settled on the Smith Vantage. I was nervous about the fit, warmth, and overall feel of wearing a helmet after riding without one for 20+ years. My fears were quickly put to rest after my first couple of runs with the Smith Vantage! The fit was fantastic, the warmth was superior to my old hat and google method and the helmet was really comfortable. I love the Boa system for dialing in the perfect fit and venting system works as advertised. Overall I'm very happy with every aspect of my new helmet and I just ordered some Smith googles to complete the package.

Good helmet, but...

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have had two Vantages that the venting slides have broken on. I ordered and returned this helmet.
Sizing felt smaller than the previous Mediums I had.
Ventilation not as good as a Lazer helmet.

Great helmet

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I finally upgraded from my old, basic Giro helmet. I've been really pleased with the Vantage. A very comfortable helmet with all the basic adjustments e.g. Boa knob. It's finally great to have the vent closures to keep my head from freezing from the wind while on the lift. The green honeycomb on the matte black is kinda slick. I thought the brim was going to be annoying when I put up my googles, however, it turned out to be fine with the bottom of my googles resting just under the brim.

Yes, this is a great helmet, but it does have a couple of warts. The fit is excellent, it is comfortable, matches my Zeal goggles well, light weight, etc. Like the other reviewers noted, the Boa knob gets loosened by my coat collar. My main complaint is when the vents are closed, it still runs a lot of air over my head to the point that I have to wear a skull cap over a balaclava to stop the brain freeze. This is at 10 degrees Fahrenheit. Having to duct tape the inside of a $200 helmet is somehow not right.
