686 Smarty Complete 2.5-Ply Pant - Men's

Whether you’re throwing down in a full-on blizzard or hitting the park on a bluebird spring day, the 686 Men’s Smarty Complete 2.5-Ply Pant has your ass covered. The 20K waterproof shell means there’s no way your boys are going to be swimming in ice water after an all-day sesh, and the removable fleece liner pant lets you dial in the right amount of insulation for the day’s temps.

  • Fully-taped seams prevent water from seeping in
  • Leg Vents dump excess heat
  • RECCO advanced rescue technology gives you peace-of-mind
  • Pant-to-jacket interface prevents snow from sneaking in
  • Adjustable waist tabs dial in the ideal fit
  • Boa compatible snow gaiters keep your feet dry
  • Belt loop stash pocket holds your goodies close

Bottom Line: Stay dry while you get stoopid in the parks.

I'm not very impressed with these pants. While the windowpane print does look really cool (and almost got them a 3 star rating) I'm ultimately returning these due to poor performance. I don't buy the 15k breathable rating one bit. They are basically like your normal pu layer lined rain coat. No fleece or mesh lining on the shell to absorb moisture while the pu layer does its thing. Basically you're left with a pair of unlined rain pants that get all clammy and stick to your skin when used without the included fleece liner.

As far as the removable fleece liner goes, the liner itself is pretty nice, but the zipper used to integrate the two pieces is tiny and has already come apart on me about 3 times.

Fit is quite baggy. I'm 160, 5'9" and got a medium and have to wear a belt to hold them up. On that note the adjustable waist bands are kind of nice, but they have this hard plastic grip thing on the ends of them. This makes them easy to adjust, but if you use a belt, it rests on top of these plastic pieces and creates a pressure point.

Pros on these pants are that the vents work flawlessly and have never snagged on me. Pockets also have been good and are very useful. Pants also seem to be very water proof and have a nice feel to them. There are also a lot of nice subtle style and attention to detail features on these pants with little 686 emblems everywhere.

Too bad these pants fail on some of the core functionally I'm looking for in a snow pant.

Honestly man, it sounds like your more concerened about being a fashion queen instead of being a rider. I think if you were more focused on riding you'd be less concerned about pressure points on your hips, and yes to wear the shell by itself is going to be cold and damp. Unless its +15 in may i wouldnt see myself wearing the shell alone. These pants are sick thats why they come with a fleece liner.

Swag and all its friends

i just got these pants for a bargin so im already happy with them. the material of the shell and the detachable sweatpants are both so comfy, iv yet to use it on the mountain yet but it seems great so far and knowing 686, they will survive a nuclear hollacuast. only con is there kinda huge so order a size down. im 6'1 165lbs and i got the large. the length is good but the waist is pretty roomy. nothing the velcrow adjustments and a belt cant fit. these pants are supper baggy and if you want to be swaggerific on the mountain, you should pick these up.
