Armed with Burton's tallest and most adjustable highback, ultralight construction, and highly-padded straps, the Cartel Snowboard Binding gives you the confidence to stomp everything. Ultra Capstrap toe straps lock your feet in place and let you take full advantage of the ultra-adjustable Team Skyback II highback. The Cartel Binding also includes dual-density EVA and B3 Gel heel cushioning on the baseplate to take the sting out of hard landings. A stiff flex lets the Cartel slay a park or rip Alaskan steep without hesitation. -
Fall 2008.
These arent goof off bindings or for the faint of heart, but they dont run the 300+ price tag that some other tall, stiff, quick and responsive all terain bindings do (ahem, C60's). As previously stated they are tall, beware of the calf bite for the first few runs, but you will get used to it. They are a little stiff but that means they are quick and nimble and respond instantly, but probly not the best choice for your urban jib board. They are very comfortable, like flying an F-15 in a lazy boy!...after the calf bite goes away theres not much discomfort anywhere on the foot...ive spent a considerable amount of time on the 3D ones and have recently upgraded to the EST version and cant wait.
Big bang for middle of the road price, sweet bindings.
I've been riding Cartels ever since the model was introduced 6? years or so ago and have owned 2 sets and am picking up my 3rd! These are the consensus favorite bindings and have held up to harsh beatings at the Bird season in, season out riding 50-100 days per season.
They have perfected the Cartel over the years, and that's the only reason that I upgraded mine twice. Steep and cheap helps too -Cartels for $109 last year!! I have never had a problem with either pair, other than one of the metal buckle ratchets getting floppy/loose but the strap still gripped tight.
These have the team skyback that is the tallest highback but don't let that scare you. These bindings perform on all terrain in all conditions. They're fairly stiff but this helps when hauling ass through a snowloaded gnarly chute!! I ride big mountain stylie in Utah and these bindings are perfect.
Cartels are the best bindings on the market according to many and I've heard through the grapevine that a lot of pros ride these that aren't sponsored by Burton. All of my bros rock them and so should you-if you want to keep up!
I had the previous year of these bindings and while i was riding burton boots, i absolutely loved them. I then switched to 32 lashed and could not ride them anymore. Even with every adjustment made possible, i was so bad i couldnt ride heel edge. great bindings for burton boots though...
My favorite bindings. Highly responsive, love the highbacks, smoothest ratchets ever. Light weight. Occasionally the toe strap scootches up. I tore the padding off the Burton plates and re-stuck them to the 4-whole plates, which worked surprisingly well.
The padding on these bindings is some of the best in the industry. I would however only recommend these bindings for riders with an aggressive stance. The highback of the Cartel pushes on the back of your calf causing you to bend your knees more than usual. I really like these binding, but I also have been boarding for 7 years. If your new to the sport, then perhaps these bindings aren't for you and you'll find the highback a pain.
Now I haven't tried a whole lot of bindings so I cannot compare it to many and claim they are better, but I can tell you my riding improved tremendously just by cinching into them. They don't have any pressure points after being adjusted accordingly to my boot and riding preference, and are supper comfy. They keep my foot locked into place and led my board where I wanted to. so far I haven't found any negatives about them as I tried my hardest... If you can break out the cash for them, you won't be disappointed.
BEWARE. The cartels have an awesome padded footbed, HOWEVER, while the Burton 3x mount plates with the binding come padded to match, the 4x plates DO NOT. Leaving an uneven footbed. Not a cool move, Burton.
oh yeah these are perfect for intermediate riders, honestly they are fine for all levels, especially intermediate+...they wouldnt be my first choice for a total begginer because they are pretty burly, but they get the job done too.
i have used this binding on a all mountain board and a freestyle board and each one has handled great with this binding it is the perfect mix between allmountain binding and freestyle binding i have used this binding for a year on 2 different boards and i have never had it come undone or even get loose if you want to hit the steeps in the morning and do the park in the afternoon than this is your binding
I have been using cartels for two years now, and there is one thing that is very clear with them they are built to take a beating! The high back is very nice but it takes a bit to get used to it. In the begining they bothered by legs. But if you really into park I wouldn't probably get these since they are sooo stiff. Other than that I would say get them.
Nice construction, tight fit to the board and the boots! El Cartel assures your control over and down the mountain with good style and smoother transitions. Definetly a must buy! PS they look pretty cool too!
these are technically my 3rd pair of bindings, I went from Ride LX's to Flow Amp 5 to the cartels and Holy crap these things are like strapping into pillows. You don't ever notice you have these bindings on. It feels like your foot is molded onto the board. Super responsive, very light, very cushy. Great bang for the buck. I was able to ride harder and more stable than I ever had. The high back is a lot different than my previous bindings, but after the first run you get used to it! LOVE THEM!!! Recommend to all!!
Whats the story with using these on non burton boards - ie with a four hole setup? Someone mentioned in the review that there was difference in the height/thickness of the 3 hole versus 4 hole screw plates?
These come with two sets of discs- a set of four hole discs for non Burton boards and a set of three hole (non ICS/EST) for Burton boards. Since the three hole discs are for Burton boards, they reward you with a layer of plush EVA foam on top of the disc. The four hole ones have no foam, this is Burton punishing you for not having a Burton board to go with. Honestly though, I have these with the four hole discs on another brands board and they are still very comfortable. The EVA foam on the three hole discs is just an added feature, it has nothing to do with compatibility.
i've replaced three boards in the time i've had mine and, while the boards have taken some abuse the bindings sill ride fantastically well. there are enough adjustments to make them stiffer on the mountain and looser in the park. i'd like burton to add more shock absorption material in the base plate for the big jumps (the four hole disc isn't fully padded, but the three hole version is), but i'll happily buy these again. the new toe and heel straps do make the bindings more comfortable, and are a solid upgrade over last years model
Ive never boarded using the caps on the toes. But I loved them halfway down the first time. Also I was worried about the forward lean, but its not that much once you're riding, plus you should have your legs bent a little anyway. Took'em to Mammoth and ruled the whole mountain with these, even hit some rails for fun and still worked great. Def. get these if you get a chance.
the padding and gel are perfect.these bindings are really, really, really comfortable. and the ratchets are the smoothest i have ever used. they just rock
These are the best bindings ever they're the only bindings i'll ever use. they're super stiff but they flex enough. good amount of pad. love the cap strap.
These bindings rule and of course come with Burton's promise to replace the base if they break. Extremely responsive and highly adjustable. I definitely recommend.
These are very great bindings. They haven't broken yet but I had a few cases where the base plate came loose and my to straps became loose...other than that i love these very great bindings with a Dom Grom
these bindings are good for the most part, they keep my feet where i want it and they're good for just about anything. sometimes the anklestrap hurts though
awesome bindings as you know by all these reviews quality, durable bindings, lightweight, love the toe cap. trust us if your going to try toe cap for the first time you will never go back. sick bindings, very adjustable too so you can dial your foot in there. buy these binds
Everyone on this site gets some bindings or boards and just says they're amazing bla bla bla. I had some 2008 Solomon spx pro's or what ever they were called but got them stolan in march this year. I brought the Cartels (pink) and i'll try and compare them as good as i can:
The solomons were a little more flexible and moved real good. However toe straps after a year or so were starting to become loose and whatever solomon say about "easy adjust" they are not!!!! but all in all really flexy and really responsive!!! great beginner binding!
The Cartels little less manovability, But way more cushioning and more rugged. 10x better toe strap really huggs ur toe right in. U'll either love or hate the high back it's great for more aggresive stanced riders such as myself. You do get 4 screw bases but i havn't tried it yet.
All in all not much in it the solomons were deffo a little more flexi but the cartels are more comfy better fit and way more rugged.
i love these bindings. they gave me much more control over my board. and when i jumped a huge jump i landed and had much less impact because of the gel insert. and these are just awesome bidings. i would reccommend them to anything.
these r the best bindings ever they have a great turn to turn response they dont wreck your feet if u flat land a water fall their like a freaking pillow for your feat and their not cracky like alot of the other bindings...If u got the money buy them
i had last yrs cartels w/ this year new straps and i just broke the highback living hinge and cracked the base. not a binding i would recommend for hard riders who like to thro down in the park ya sure ill give em lightness and the pretty comfy i guess new airstraps are no pressure point but durability u will brekk em if u ride hard. if u r lookin for a binding to last look somewhere else... n burton ozones r crap too
