Burton Ruler Snowboard Boot - Men's - 2009

From hidden powder stashes to massive hits, the Burton Men's Ruler Snowboard Boot owns the mountain. These shred-anything all-mountain boots use micro-articulating cuffs and full-length backstays to give you the right amount of flex and support to ride the deeps in the morning and the terrain park in the afternoon. Burton's Speed Zone lacing system offers independent upper and lower zonal control for quick adjustments when you're in a hurry—like when there's two feet of freshies. Power Panel Technology in the Ruler Boots' heat-moldable liners employs support panels that help them maintain the first-day flex and rebound on the hundredth day you wear them. - Fall 2009.

Bottom Line: Don't let your boots hold you back. Rip up the entire mountain with the Ruler.

Comfortable, warm, lots of pack out

By:
October 19, 2008

These are definitely some comfortable boots especially at this price point. I have to disagree with just about everything the other reviewer said though.

The Ruler's are most definitely heat moldable, you can even check the Burton website ALL of the boots with this liner are. Even if you don't have the molding done at a shop they will still mold from your weight and body heat over th course of a day.

I am sized at an 11.5 on one of those foot measuring devices and I comfortably wear a 10.5 Ruler (Ion as well), these boots pack out A LOT, I strongly recommend ordering at least a 1/2 size smaller than usual(shoe size) or you will be getting heel lift after less than a week of heavy use.

As for the sock thing it really shouldn't be necessary to wear more than one pair. Invest in at least two pairs of tech socks like smartwool (or similar) and you'll be good for the season. You can probably find some pretty cheap(less than $15) on this site. Wearing 3 pairs of cheap cotton socks will make you sweat leading to cold, damp feet.

The speed zone lacing system is great. You can really dial in on both your forefoot and ankle area for a great customizable fit.

The shrinkage tech is great for guys like me right on the board width border. A full size smaller footprint means no more wide boards and no more heel/toe drag on reg widths, I'm rocking 2 254 mm WW boards this season which rocks!

All in all you really can't go wrong for the short money on these boots.

Sick As Hell

By:

These boots are amazing. Don't know how much simpler i can get. The speed lacing system is amazing, so much better than the traditional lacing system. Warm as hell, haven't ridden in extremely cold weather, but down to 0 degrees F and my feet were still warm. Good fit. The base of the shoe grips very well, just a little extra that helps walking up to that rail or in the parking lot. Definitely a 5/5.

Rulers Suck

By:
October 20, 2008

I bought these boots last season rode them all year and then the laceing system broke. I guess what happened was the tubing that runs the the bott for the laceing system cracked and freyed the sleeve on the laces so the device that is suppose the lock the lace in place would grip it. I went and got new laces(which were a bitch to put in) and usewd them about 15 to 20 more days for that season. I put them on this season to ride a basin and the lace that I replace with one of burtons newer laces for these boots broke again. so If you want to be kepp replace lace through out the year get these boots. The only thing that was good was that i could lace up in like 2 mins

Not quite real Rulers

By:
May 21, 2009

First is the pros. These boots are comfy. Like putting on a big pair of slippers comfy. As the other reviews on here say, the lacing on these is so easy I could do blindfolded. BUT that doesn't outweigh the cons of these boots, for me at least. The pack out on these things is bad, and I was getting heel lift only a few weeks after rocking these. Another thing, I like my boots flexy, but not to point that when I strap in they lose all stiffness and collapse under the pressure. Overall, these boots were good for the money I spent on them, but not good enough for the long haul.

Good boot for the money!

By:

I upgraded from a cheap/beginner pair to these and could definitely feel the improvement! Provided good support and it's quick to put on. Only complaint is that it's a long and somewhat uncomfortable process getting them worn in. But now they're good to go!

Bad Boot

By:
February 12, 2009

A minor problem I had is the tongues never stay in place and always slide to the outer side of the boot. Its small but annoying. I felt the boots were extremely uncomfortable. I could feel alot of presure from the binding straps and a sharp pain near the one ankle like something was popping through. I think this is due to the fact that the liners are pretty thin and pack out REALLY bad. My brother has a pair of Ride Anthems, which is a cheaper boot, and the liner is twice as think and padded and also has a good bit of arch support. The Burton Rulers have no arch support and very little padding. My biggest problem was when I pull the one liner tight the heal wrinkles up inside. My heal rubs up against the wrinkle and it got fairly bruised and swollen, I have not been able to ride for a week because it hurts so bad. I have had a alot of boots in the past and this has never happened.

Through the years I have noticed that Burton has so many new products and technology every year that its like each product gets very little careful attention and the final product seems incomplete compared to other companies who like to focus hard on developing a good solid product no matter what level or price it is. I feel most of Burton's stuff gets skipped over, its tech is just gimicky, while all their good design seems to go to the stuff at the very top of the line, which is so overpriced and unaffordable to the majority of snowboarders out there. Thats just my opinion after comparing Burton with other brands and having a few warrenty issues with them. DogFunk is great though. They recredited my purchase completely w/o questions after I told them the problems I was having with the boots.

Perfect for dodging work

By:
October 17, 2008

I just got these and they are amazing. I love the lacing system. They aren't heat molded but they fit so snug that its as if they were. I am a size 10.5 to 11 foot and I got the 11. These are the tightest(in a good way) 11 I have ever had but they fit perfect. So if you need 3 pairs of socks to keep your feet warm then go a size bigger. They are also some of the lightest boots I have ever picked up!!! Props Burton on these!
