Bomb the periphery when you wear the Burton Ronin Flank Jacket. While others stick to the groomers, the Flank helps you slice up the trees, steeps, and cliffs at the outer edge of the mountain. Waterproof-breathable fabric and fully taped seams repel moisture like a bullet-proof vest, and at the request of its riders, Burton’s Sig Fit adds a little extra length to the bottom of this Ronin piece. A waist gaiter keeps snow from blowing up and in and a Countour hood takes you undercover as you assault the gnarliest terrain. - Fall 2008.
Bottom Line: When the mountain militia takes position, assume the Flank.
First of all, this jack has NO insulation. So be prepared to spend some $$ on good under layers. At first, I did not like this jacket for that reason. The first day at the hill with it the weather was 28 with freezing rain. Everybody with me was soaked from the lift drips and rain, but I was bone dry. This thing repels water like a duck. That said.... you need lots of layers on underneath it to stay warm in anything under 10 degrees.
Without even mentioning the mountain, it definitely stands up to japan's bad weather, constant rain, and downright nasty wind. when you zip up all the way the micro fleece's soft and warm on your face; i hate to say it, but dogfunk's wrong on a couple things, this IS zip in compatable with other burton pants, and as for pockets, 2 hand, 3 cargo, 2 chest, 1 pass, and 3 internal including a media pocket that you can access from the inside or out. i'm short so the extra length doesn't do much for me in the arms, unless i close up the wrists a bit i feel like a little kid, but the length everywhere else just helps it look badass, i get complements everywhere with this jacket, my only complaint (and i mean only), no insulation, but the site says that, i didn't expect insulation, and i just fix that with a good base layer. now on the mountain... wow; it survived my painful learning phase without a scratch, and continues to beat down the elements.
I recommend Nikwax Tech Wash and TX Direct to keep it goin' strong as long as it's in one piece
