The best thing to do when shopping for a child is not to try to match their age with a size- something that's hard to do because we're programmed from when they're young as clothing is labeled 2T, 3T etc.. but that's not always the case. In this case, you have a really accurate size chart on this page. My advice is to get out the tape measure and make your judgment from there. If you find yourself between sizes, I'd buy one size bigger as kid's grow like weeds or buy both sizes and return one- sucks sometimes but you may not get it right the first time and would be easier to return one than buy another.
