Lib Technologies Skate Banana Original BTX Snowboard
Put the Lib Tech Skate Banana Original BTX Snowboard under your feet and start pressing like a pro. Along with the tell-tale banana yellow color, this deck sports rocker technology that pivots and butters in the park like a, while the Magne-traction edges let you rail anywhere on the mountain. The Skate Banana’s soft flex underfoot and stiff nose and tail give you a buttery-soft ride that won’t fold when you hit the chunks.
I've been reading mixed reviews on the Skate Banana for the all-around performance. I ride out west (British Columbia) about 5-10 days a year, and spend the most of my riding time in NY state, Ontario (10-20 days combined) and Quebec (5-10 days). I've heard that the Banana is a great all mountain board for the pow and the tree runs out west, but not so great on the icy slopes of the east.
How does it handle on the typically bulletproof slopes of NY and ON?
How is it at high speeds? I've heard of problems with chatter and extra difficulty on corduroy.
Like someone already pointed to, check out the T-Rice. I have the new one with the c2 banana which might make a difference. Its been tearing up the sketchy early season conditions in CO. Better than any other board I've used on ice.
the skate banana can handle all mountain riding but its more of a park board, if you are looking for all mountain performance look at the Lib Tech Travis Rice
it has magnetraction, so you will get a good bit of bite into icy slopes. on high-speed groomers, i think handles decently, but only because i sized down (156 vs a 159 or so normally). you could always size the same as your cambered board - my guess is that it would ride fine. chris jones is correct, though, traditional camber is better for groomers.
Its not the best for icy groomers for sure. A traditional cambered board is the best for that junk. But you will love it in the pow, its all about the quiver man, you need a bunch of boards.
does the magne tractin actually pull you around when your riding flat based.... i want to buy one but i kinda have mixed feelings about this board?? what do you guys think...nana or arftifact 1985 for just riding everything?
hey Im 5´6 , 165 lb and 10. boot size . Im about to head up for a season and i am thinking the 152 or the 156? I want a jib butter board that i can ride in pow . Anyone with an answer would appreciate!!!
I absolutely love my banana and it is easily the best board I've ridden. It really does excell all over the mountain and is so fun to ride. When i first rode this board it did feel a bit weird but you get used to it right away and I was buttering and spinning off everything I could find. It is a bit sketchy at speeds but not bad, and the mtx is a bit aggressive. I recommend detuning your edges. I live in BC and up here this thing kills it in pow. Definitely a good board!
is there a limit to how much you can flex a snowboard by putting your foot in the middle and pulling back? if so can it cause damage to your board if you hear a small snapping noise thats very subtle.
My 09/10 Lib Skate Banana does the same thing, even when I flex the tail. At first I was scared s**tless, but I'm glad to hear that everybody's is doing it. I was definately not putting too much pressure on it if its built to handle my 170lb chubby ass butters and presses. Hope that helps.
I've been riding for about 6 years and I've decided to go with the whole rocker thing. I'm not sure if the sizing changes or not, but I've heard you can ride a rocker shorter. I've got a capita 156 for street stuff (just sold my 159 burton dominant), but was thinking of going for a skate banana 156 wide or 159 wide for the actual mountain. I'm 6 foot 200lbs and have a size 12 boot. Which size?
whats up, im 6ft. amd ive been riding for 9 yrs and ive ridin a lot of boards and sometimes depending on on flexible and durable the boards are i usually pick what size. i can ride between a 152-158 comfortably on rails and i would say that bananas have good cambering, so i would say 155-158
I've ridden and owned the Skate Banana and other BTX boards from Lib and Gnu (love them), and the first thing anyone will tell is that you can size down 3cm. In my personal opinion I would get a rocker board in the same length you'd get a cambered board. The feature on a snowboard which makes it ride bigger is a longer effective edge no matter what the camber. A rocker/reverse camber board will float more, but it doesn't make your edge longer. Control in-between your feet? Definitely, Does it facilitate the need to get a smaller board? Not so much. Just my opinion, hope this helped.
Here is my personal take on the lib-tech skate banana. I am 6'1'', 165 lbs, and wear a 10.5 boot. Have ridden the sk8 nana on just about all conditions. I have a 159 and ive ridden it for everything. They hold up to riding in the powder, as the banana naturally excels in that area anyway. They are solid all around boards. You can ride park, rails, cliffs, jumps, jibs, etc. The flex really isn't as soft as what i've heard most people saying. It's a nice medium flex I'd say, so it will hold up to the entire mountain pretty decently. They butter really well too. Im not that into butters and i can pull them off pretty easy on this thing. My two big problems with the sk8 nana are these: lack of pop and high speed stability. Anyone who says these things have great pop, has probably never ridden a good cambered board. They definitely lack in the pop area, especially compared to a good cambered deck. Also high speed stability & the magne-traction. This thing starts chattering around and bouncing through rough, tracked up spots, and forget high speeds. Thing feels sketchy at real high speeds. The magne-traction seems to aggressive, and sometimes gives me the feeling that it wants to pull to only one side, hauling ass flat based on this thing is tricky, to me seemingly. If you want a responsive, poppy, hard charging board, id look somehwere else. Slower speeds, riding switch, and buttering around are the high points on this deck.
this is a horrible review becaus ei got the banana and after ten day i thrashed out the nose lifting up all of the top sheet because the absence of a rail on the nose. it rides well in death cookies and is an ok board.
considering you don't even know what size of a board you should rock out on, I'd save your dough and buy something a little less expensive, this board is tight but it won't make you an allstar and you can get the same fun out of something a lot cheaper, sorry to burst your bubble bro, but you could rock out on '52 if you really want the bananer.
yo billy...For park riding size down and for pow size up...im going to assume you've never bought a board before...your 5/4 so i think the smallest size that they offer....also you might want to take a quick look at the sizing chart DF offers
I would get a 151 or 152. The reason being is that if your not purely into park riding, meaning you wanna go all mountain, your going to need a bigger board. The only problem is your weight vs boot size. You got a very big foot for your weight. I have the same problem. Im 5 6 120 and have size 11 boot. I ride a 150 and it fits me just fine. I ride the park pickle though. These boards are very similar. I would go with that for now. You should grow into it but 1 or 2 cm wont affect you greatly
I am getting this board for my boyfriend for his birthday because he won't shut up about it lol I just need to know if I should get the narrow board. His boot size is 9-9.5 I don't remember which size exactly and it is going to be a surprize soooo I can't ask him... help?!?
Kayla, I have a size 9 Burton boot and just threw my binders on this board (156 standard width) the other day. It seems that there are gonna be NO problems with drag for me, and I assume your BF will be the same. Also, since board length is alot about preference and riding style as well as physical size and weight I would try to sneak a peek at his current board to see how long you want to get it (the size is often printed somewhere on the board top and will probably just be a number between 150-160). If everything goes wrong and he gets mad at you for getting him the wrong size and you live in the Salt Lake area then dump him and give me a call. A girl who gets me a new snowboard for my birthday couldnt get me the wrong size if they tried.
I have that same size foot and ride this board in the regular width in a 156cm which has a 255mm waist width on it. So he will be just fine on the regular width board.
i'm also 150 lbs and i rode the nana 152 last 2 years. take the 52 - rode it with the widest stance in pow. stiff enough for your weight to go on speed, and so much fun..
I would say youre good with a 156. If you look at recommended boards for the weight class LIB suggests a massive board. Im a little on the heavy side myself, 6 foot tall and 190 pounds, and my 156 is PERFECT. It has a little more flex than the smaller sizes which makes up for the weight. Your size 8 feet would get lost on the large boards.
I have always been just an all mountain rider hittin mostly the groomers, but I'm thinking about moving into freestyle and I'm really interested in this board. Currently I'm ridin an 09 Rome Anthem and it's SO SICK for anything, but rails and boxes. Do you think if I get the Banana I could still bring it to the groomers and maybe even some pow and do okay?
The banana is the ATV of snowboards. Any terrain, any surface, it kills it. Groomers, even when its icy get destroyed by the magnetraction, and in pow, the banana butters straight through. I dumped my burton custom for a banana, and never been happier. Its a pretty flexible board, so if you are looking at tougher hardcore terrain, you should check out some stiffer boards, but generally, the skate banana works no matter where you shred.
Im thinking about getting this board, but wanna know if its too soft to really push it through steep and gnarly terrain. If its not too soft, what bindings would anyone recommend for the best response for pulling off tight controlled turns? I was looking at Bent Metal Missionaries. Thanks a ton.
Hey MJP... I've ridden the banana at Jackson Hole on a good day and had a great time, but if you are planning on spending most of your time doing big mountain freeriding, I would suggest something a little stiffer. The TRS and Travis Rice models excel in those areas and may be what you are looking for. As for the Bindings, the Bent Metals are comfy, solid bindings that will provide you with the stiffness you need. Union has some killer bindings on the market designed for Banana and rocker boards that are worth checking out as well. Let it snow!!
Hi, am an intermediate freerider looking to get into some park work jibbing and stuff and just mainly to mess around on. Specs are 6'2, 165lbs size 11 booties. been riding a 62W 09 custom for awhile now but it is alittle large. Would i get away with the 52 or would it have to be the 56....oh and 1 more thing....with size 11 boot i have a bit of room on my Wide so i would get away with the normal for this board? Thanks
Mark, Go for the 56 Wide! the 52, while fun, you would probably break due to your weight, especially if you're getting nasty on some park features. Having banana, the boards initiate turns much faster, so having a wide is no prob. I have a size 8.5 boot and prefer the mid-wides like the Travis Rice and the GNU Street Series.
hey guys, want to buy a friend this for his birthday, he has been boarding for about a year now...he is 6ft1 and comes in at 85kg, from memory he is rocking out a size 11 boot...any ideas on a board size for him. mainly park riding and the odd powder.
my brother is 87 kg's and 6' 1 with a size 11 1/2 boots. I bought him this board for deep pow and easy park riding. I hooked him up with the 156 W. The Wide will work well with the boots and help you avoid drag and give you more options for stances, and the 156 is about as short as you can push it. Maybe throw on some burton custom L bindings on it.
Hey, im 150 pounds 5' 10" but i wear a size 12 boot and im not sure what type of board size i should get, i want a smaller board because i ride park more, any tips? Also i was interested in getting good but cheap bindings, recommendations?
i weigh 180 at 5'11" and i have size 12 feet also. I say if you duck out your bindings just enough you will be fine on toe drag. I would recommend to you a 153,154 forum destroyer
I'd say go for the 152 to 154 GNU Street series. It's a mid wide, mega fun deck!(25 to 25.4 waist) It'll be a little softer for the jibbing and your weight spec's. It's also priced right!
definitely get a wider (265mm waist width) board so you don't have toe drag; that 156 wide skate banana would be sweet and last you a while if you take care of it. you could also try something like the MC Kink snowboard or the Burton Fix, Blunt, or Dominant. as for cheap bindings, well, with bindings you usually get what you pay for, but i've been impressed with flux bindings for the price.
Hi I'm Luca from Italy, I'm interested in buying a lib tech board, I whould like to receive some information about costs and time of delivery for one board to be delivered in Italy
hi im 6ft 165 lbs and were a size 12 boot and want to do mostly park but still be able to hit the rest of the mountain on nice days and was looking at the 156 wide, but do you think a 152 regular would be better for that sort of riding and would i fit my feet on it?
You'll need the wide board to get those boots in there without overhang.... plus I think the 156 is a good size for a dude of your height if you wanna focus more on park! Ch!
so i'm interested in trying out the banana tech boards but can't seem to find any for girls. I was looking into getting the 148 narrow. Would that be ideal for a girl who's about 5'4 125lbs?
The Banana narrows were designed with girls in mind, but not specific to them. Lib tech does not make gender specific boards. See the good wood results for the TRS in the past.
just because its marketed as a 'guys' board doesn't mean that you shouldn't look into one, besides, if anybody comments on you about that and disregards you for it, then their probably some gaper who doesn't know what he/she/it is talking about. And hopefully you might have the cajones to top them out on the mountain...
unless your looking for a really girly design it really doesnt matter if you get a guys board or girls. my mom rides a t6 and thats not exactly a girls board. that board should work pretty well
so lib tech doesnt make any girls boards but gnu and roxy boards are made by mervin too so theyll have the same banana tech in smaller sizes if thats what youre looking for
I'm looking to buy this board for a gift - does anyone have a recommendation for bindings to go with it? The person I'm buying for likes the biggest & the best! Cheers.
If you want bindings that go with the board, Mervin makes bindings called BENT METAL BINDER MACHINE that are coloured the same way as the lib tech boards. Their website isnt updated with a lot of the styles, but for example, you can get the bindings with the same toxic green pattern as you see on this years banana. They are a little rugged looking, but so far Mervin has earned themselves a good name making some of the best boards, so why not bindings.
well the tricky part is knowing what they ride more of... if they ride park then maybe the ride alpha or beta mvmt... thats what i ride on my banana... if they love the pow i hear that the burton c60's are pretty good... but ever since the companies started trying to cut cost they started cutting back on materials for bindings so I really dont know how reliable burton bindings may be... also you might want to check out the ride contraband... its new... its fresh... and it looks pretty sweeeettt.... good luck
Write your question here... I'm 45 years old reasonable boarder 5'8" 175cm 175lb 80kg board in Japan don't board much in parks perfer powder, trees what type & size of banana board would you recommend, thanks Cliff from Australia
with the banana tech they say you can rock it a size smaller but if your riding pow then i would stick with your normal size... trust me the banana technology in any size will let your rip through pow
