Smith I/O Interchangeable Optics Spherical Series Goggles - Mirror Lens
Smith's sleek, rimless design matches up nicely with the ease of their interchangeable technology when you wear the I/O Interchangeable Optics Spherical Series Goggle. Oversized spherical lenses curve like the natural shape of your eye to provide optimal visual clarity when you ride. The quick release lens system makes it easy to change out lenses depending on the weather and which lens works best in certain conditions. Smith uses their Vaporator lens technology on the I/O to keep fog off your lenses for crystal clear sight on the mountain.
I originally purchased the Regulator model from Smith. They are a good goggle but wasn't right for my face. I went back to the shop and tried on just about every goggle out. The I/O's were by far the best fit. While the goggle has a bit of sticker shock associated with it, you get a lot with the goggle like an extra lens, soft bag, and hard case. So the price isn't as bad as it looks. Initially, I wasn't sure about the Sensor lens, but I have found more use for that lens over the Ignitor. The sensor lets in enough light for night riding and provides a bit better depth perception on overcast/weather days. Pair this goggle with a Smith helmet like the Hustle or Holt and obtain the ultimate goggle/helmet interface. Caution you may need to purchase Smith's Helmet Strap extension to get the strap to fit a larger helmet.
these things are awesome. i got rolled up and had to clean out the lens. the following run was a bit foggy and hazy but after airing them out on the lift everything was back to normal with a couple nominal water drops. oh and changing the lens has honestly never been easier. only problem is that i have to sag the goggles quite a bit for them to fit my face just right...but i can live with that
Could've sworn i already reviewed these. bought them last year when my shop was having end of season sale, and im so glad i did, they very comfortable on the face, the padding is soft, and lens changing is really easy. I was kind of skeptic on them at first, but they have really impressed me in the longrun and i would totally buy another pair. GREAT BUY
After a long and fruitless search for a goggle that fits with my 2009 RED mutiny helmet, I have stumbled upon the lifesaving waters of Smith's I/O. It snugs up under the visor with ease, actually fits my face (which is usually large specs only), good peripheral vision, and lens changing is so easy it almost hurts. The sensor mirror and ignitor mirror give you everything you could ever ask for any conditions. Smith optics are crystal clear. Costs a good chunk of change, but save all those pennies and your eyes will thank you.
Cars have windshields, i have my smith I/O's! Blasting out of a DEEP faceshot, the i/o seems to always provide a clear view of where to lay my next turn!
PROS: Swapping lenses is ridiculously easy. Wide field of vision. Looks high-tech to justify the price. It integrates well with SMITH brand helmet, I used it with the Hustle helmet, and they were made for each other.
CONS: The gasket that seals the lens to the goggle frame has a tendency to leak in certain situations. Louie Fountain complained about this very thing to me on a pow day in Mt. Baker. Also, depending on the shape of your face, it might not fit correctly around the nose area, as some people have already mentioned. Flat faced people like me will have a huge gap around the nose unless you sag it real low. I personally wear the Prodigy goggles more often, or a Japan/Asian fit Fuse Regulators that I special ordered from japan (It has thicker foam around the nose for flat faces).
These goggles are pretty dope. Great vision good lenses and overall an awesome fit. I tend to get some wind going between the lens and the frame on 60 mile an hour wind days but any other day and they are fine. Lenses change our quickly and efficiently.
The I/Os are some of the most functional and easy-to-use frames that I have ever owned! Swapping lenses when the clouds roll in has never been so simple. The fit on these is amazing, and I love the look of the spherical lens. If you are looking for a goggle with all the features and the looks, I would totally recommend the Smith I/O!!!!
The lenses are relatively easy to pop in and out. The goggles don't fog up too easily, and clear pretty quickly if they do. They have a good field of view, and they look sick. My only gripe is that the lenses aren't labeled. I'm not even sure which one I have in right now. I might have to break out the dremel and carve a label into them or something. Still, they're pretty nice.
