Its good but heavy

Really its the only deal in town, but saying that I honestly feel like the guys at Voile are nothing but skiers that snowboard on occasion cause it shows in their design of the kit or lack of design for that matter. They have not upgraded anything about this kit in a long long time. Also I bought aftermarket t bolts that were smooth on the bottom, why doesnt the kit come with that in the first place? The t bolts in the kit are worthless. Also I would pay more for a kit made out of lighter metals (maybe titanium). A splitboard is freaking heavy, anything to save weight on the kit would be a good idea. Buy and use lightweight bindings to help lighten this thing up(Any one from Volie listening to this?)There are a lot of things Voile could do to make it better. Yeah I love to splitboard, but that doesnt mean I am going to blindly say that this thing couldnt be better. Check this entry out for my experience on making a splitboard.

DIY splitboarding works fairly well

By:
November 7, 2006

I started splitting my board a few weeks ago and just filled in the holes with epoxy a few days ago. Splitting went pretty well, but I definitely needed a lot of info from the forums on splitboard.com. The main bummer about splitting your own board is the stance is not adjustable. I didn't realize this till after I got the kit. Aso, I don't think the board rides exactly like it would've unsplit. My first skinning experience was interesting. The climbing bars are tricky to flip up and down (I'm gonna add webbing loops) and there was an established boot pack so my post-holing buddy actually beat me up the hill. I'm sure I would be at a much greater advantage on a pow hike though.

Does what it's supposed to do - well

If you want a split board without paying the cash for a ready-made one, this kit will do the trick. I took an old board, and after 6 hours in the shop I had a new split board. It's not too tough to do - just takes some time. As far as using it goes... Skinning is not easy. This is no fault of the kit and with practice it works well, especially with the amount of grip the tractor skins get. The board rides well. You can't expect a board to ride the same if it's cut in half, but the kit system is actually amazingly good: it holds well and sturdy, doesn't chatter, and the board keeps quite a bit of its snap. All in all, if you want a cheap split board, and don't mind investing some time, this is for you.
