how did I live without these?

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've been surviving Salt Lake winters for 7 years in skate shoes like an idiot. Got a dog last summer, so I realized my regular shoes weren't going to cut it for taking him out twice a day when we were in the middle of single-digit inversions. These things are plenty warm and gave me adequate grip on icy surfaces. Don't know why I didn't get them sooner. Runs large though, I'm usually a 9 and I have a pair of 8s in these that are perfect.

Pretty Decent Boot

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

OK, so I got this boot because I live in upstate NY where it's cold all winter long. I wanted something that I could wear for walking the dog or shoveling the front walk that would keep my feet warm and dry, but that wasn't as big and clunky as a pac boot. This boot does keep my feet dry, and for the most part it keeps my feet warm. The past few weeks I've been grateful for it because we've had a lot of weather in the teens or lower. For the most part my feet stay warm. My work has carpeting over concrete floors. The air is plenty warm, but my feet still get cold from the cold floor.

They're not nearly as clunky as a pac boot and I can easily slide my pant legs over the top of the boots, but they are pretty sloppy. My foot moves around a lot which pulls my socks down regularly. I normally wear an 8.5 or a 9 in shoes. I ordered these in an 8 and that seems like the right size, but they're still really sloppy. Very little support.

My feet get really cold really easily. I know that I'm not normal in that regard. When I'm out walking my dog when it's basically zero degrees F out, I'm actually pretty warm. When I'm sitting in my car waiting for the heat to warm up my feet are fairly cold, but it's not unbearable. The only time I'm disappointed is when I'm at work with cold feet - the result of the carpet over concrete.

The boot is not clunky, but its not tiny either. It is somewhere between a duck boot and a pac boot. Overall I think this boot does the job. Plus my wife like's the way it looks. We say it looks like what Don Draper would have worn on a hunting trip.

Finally, it's not as involved as a pac boot to put on or take off, but it's not particularly easy either. You really have to loosen up the laces when taking it off to avoid pulling the liner out. Anyway, I'm pretty satisfied with the boot. I just wish it were a little warmer, but that's more an issue with me than the boot.

Very warm stylish boots.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This boots are rated for negative 40 degrees and I believe. I have worn them several times times on snowy days in Utah and my feet were toasty. The liner does a great job of wicking away sweat leaving your feet dry.
I gave this boot 4/5 of stars because it is a little difficult to take on and off.
I am normally a size 9.5 and I ordered the 9.5 and it fits great.

Great boots, size down

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I got an 11 as I usually size up in boots, especially winter ones, to account for thicker socks. May have been a mistake. The 11s are more like 12s and really are not great for driving either. Good however for warmth and style.

Warm, Stylish, but no arch support

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

First off, I picked this boots purely for looks and warmth. Seeing how I'm practically a 70 year old man, trapped in a 25 year old's body, I wanted something that had a classic look to it, much like the ones my father wore to shovel snow when I was young. I found these and thought there were prefect! I did read many comments saying that they tend run large, but I found this not to be true in my case. I typically wear a 10.5, so I ordered a 10, but found it was hard to get them on and off my feet without pulling out the liners and they were a little snug across the top of my foot. I placed another order for a 11 and 12, and found the 11 gave me plenty of room, even with heavy socks. I bought these boot primarily for the near arctic like Wisconsin winter, shoveling snow, walking outside, ice fishing, etc. I've found they are quite warm, but as mentioned in the title, do lack foot support, so I wouldn't suggest these if you're doing a lot of walking or going to be standing for extended periods. Other then that, they are great, have classic lines, and are super warm to boot (no pun intended)

style for miles

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

picked up a pair of these as an alternative to the classic Caribou Sorel. They are sweet! Way lighter than the Caribou model and still waterproof and warm, allthough I feel at extreme cold the caribou is prob a tad warmer. Sweet style and super comfy. They run a touch large but not super huge. Only downside is they take a little time to get on and off, cant just step into them but its not a big deal at all.

Serious business

These boots are solid as can be! Super warm and waterproof. Wool liner is nice and comfy. I would definitely suggest downsizing a half size or a whole size. I normally wear a 9.5 or a 10 and I got these in a 9.

The best of boots!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is an awesome boot! I work in the snow/rain/water/etc and these are perfect for it. They are really warm and comfortable and completley waterproof. They do seem to run a little big so I would size down!

Warm Style

After putting these bad boys to the test in snow and rain conditions they are a classic winter boot that will handle all the slop and then hang at the local watering hole after. They look great fit perfect and keep you locked out of the elements. Grab these classics while you still can!

Phenomenal Boots

Great winter boots that are very warm and totally waterproof. I use them for everything for shoveling snow to hiking around in very deep snow and I have never felt cold. They do run a bit large and they seem to have a slightly narrow toe box. I had to go with my normal size(again, they a bit large) to get a width that was truly comfortable. The downside is the heels are a bit loose, but I just clamp down the laces.

Functional, not quite as "Fashionable"

Functional. I can drive my manual Xterra in these boots! Pac boots are hard to find that will still let me drive a manual, but these function perfectly.

Fit. I normally wear a size 11.5. I bought the 11. They fit well even with a pair of super-thick Smartwool socks. [For comparison, I wear (in other brands): Sidi 45.5; Vasque 11.5; Sperry 11.5].

Warm. These keep my feet warm, even down to 0 (while wearing lightweight wool socks).

Fashionable...ish. They look good. The problem, in my opinion, is that the felt liner goes all the way to the top of the boot. This means that you can't roll the tops down/let them splay out a bit, without the felt inner boot showing. You could fix this by trimming the felt boot, but that lessens the functionality of these boots. This is the ONLY reason I would give these 4 stars.

Fit

I wear a 10 in Nike, (27 mondo ski boot), I got these in 9 and they fit perfect. It was snug at first but the toasty removable felt liner breaks in and after it's just right, any smaller would be too small though in the length. It is very wide.

No arch support whatsoever, if you want to put an insole in, you might want to consider sizing up.

I wouldn't wear them to hike long distances since they are sloppy around the ankle and heel, and very bulky.

Warm (hot even), comfy, totally waterproof, and good for walking / standing around in deep snow.

do they run big or true to size

do they run big or true to size

Responded on

From trying mine on today, I'd say they run about 1/2 size large. Unfortunately, BC only carries them in whole sizes. I haven't yet decided if I'll go with my regular shoe size or the next whole size down. The bigger size feels a little sloppy with room for my foot to move around, but the smaller size feels constricting in the instep area.

Write your answer here...order 1/2 size down.i have normal 10 1/2 size feet and the 10 is perfect with 2 layer sock or thick winter socks.
cheers from Gotham!!

I usually wear an 11.5. I purchased these in 11. They fit well even with my super heavy weight smartwool socks.

These boots rock

I bought a pair in my usual size 10 and with some wool socks they fit perfect. No downsizing needed. Super warm and they grip the ice and snow really well.

Great boots!!

Nothing much to say about it, just great boots!!
Warm, not heavy weight and they look really cool...

Good boots, size them down.

These boots just arrived. These have a nice retro look with less bulk than many pac boots, but are still plenty warm. They are sized big. I usually wear a 10.5, but got these in a 10 and still have plenty of room for thick socks or a thin footbed. I plan to wear these before and after skiing, sledding with the kids, and shoveling snow in Northern Utah.

Great winter boot

the snow is already falling in utah and i'm glad i have these sorel's. they are perfect for shoveling snow, sloshing through parking lots and taking the dogs for walks through the snow. my only complaint is i should have bought a size smaller; i usually wear a 12 and could have gone w/ an 11. the liner is super warm and i often find myself shedding my socks and the waterproof and durability are fantastic.

How does insulation in the upper compare to the Caribou? Looks pretty minimalist. Is there any warm/fuzzy inside?

Best Answer Responded on

no warm fuzzy feeling but i have been using these through Gotham's snowstorms and not one single wet drop inside.don't know about the caribou but i bought these due to it's simplicity.looks great with all my gear in my closet.
cheers!
