High Quality Jacket for little $$

Alright, ordered this from dogfunk the other day and was shipped for free in about 3 days! The jacket is bomb and has a shit ton of features. I picked up the cross hatch and it is looks amazing with an EXTREMELY comfortable and warm inner detachable lining. There is no way I have enough things to get full use of all the pockets, it's great! Also, the build of it is extremely high quality, very durable, and it fits perfect (5'10" 180lb = large). It has a roomy fit but not too baggy, perfect mobility. DEFINITELY BUY THIS JACKET. Special Blend knows their trade.

So does this jacket have wrist gaiters?...

Not just for men.

I bought this jacket in the Oh Snap Prep Plaid, size small, for my 17 yr old daughter and she loves it! She likes to wear jackets a little big to make room for sweatshirts and this one is perfect. Also, she loves the color. Everyone will see her on the slopes. Great jacket!!!

I have a question for those who have used it for riding. The breathability rating is only for the shell, so I'm wondering if the insulated jacket is any good at evacuating sweat?

Best Answer Responded on

Jerome, the breathability technology applies to more than just the shell. We create our product to make sure you don't sweat yourself to death. The insulation keeps you warm and the breathability keeps the excess away from you, all jackets have pit zips as well.

Responded on

OK thanks for the answer! I was wondering because on the "Tech Specs" column it specifies [Shell] next to the breathability rating. So would the breathability of this coat with the liner be comparable to the Snowpatrol jacket which is single layer? And how about ventilation? I guess that it would be more efficient with the Snowpatrol since it probably opens through the insulation, unlike the Packer (unless there's a second zip in the liner)?

I'm having a hard time deciding between the two. As much as I know that layering is always a good idea to be able to adapt to climatic changes, I like the idea of wearing fewer layers than usual. I usually ride in quite cold conditions (like -4°F) and had to wear a nice warm base layer + a fleece jacket underneath my insulated Rossignol jacket to be comfortable. In very cold conditions I had to add another layer. But breathability is very important because I ride a lot of narrow backcountry trails, away from the wind, so it's easy to get really hot and sweat a lot.

With the Packer, if I start with two layers for the base coat and still have to add two other layers, I fear it might get too bulky. On the other hand, having a shell that's good enough to be used alone as a raincoat would be nice... but comfort and staying dry in cold snowboarding conditions is my priority...

The Snowpatrol looks like it might be warm enough to use only the base layer most of the time, which would be great for comfort. I suppose I could open the vents/use a lighter base layer when it's warmer outside and add the fleece when it's extremely cold. Could you estimate the kind of weather that's bearable wearing only a t-shirt with the Snowpatrol jacket? I wonder if it could really be too warm for my needs?

I need the expert's opinion on this!

Thanks in advance!

You shouldn't have to layer that much, it is all about great first layer product. Marina wool is legit for sure. Check some of that product out. But both of these jackets are great. The waterproofing is good, it will keep you dry for sure. The breathability is great as well. I personally like the snowpatrol jacket better. You will be stoked if you get this jacket and a great base layer piece. Check this layering piece out; http://www.dogfunk.com/burton-expedition-1-4-zip-top-mens

hey this jacket looks dope in the oh snap prep plaid!

i'm 5' 7" and around 120 pounds. should i rock a small? I heard special blend is very baggy. thanks for any answer!

Responded on

You're a pretty tiny dude, no offense, and you can't go any smaller than small-there's no XS available. Really, the only reason to go bigger than S would be for fassion, or because you live in a truly frigid location and you NEED the layers underneath. I don't know about you, but it seems like the more insulation I put on, the less I always end up needing.

Responded on

I'd probably suggest the small or medium (definitely not LARGE as it will be gigantic!) Because of the sleeve length, you may want to hit the medium. You don't want your sleeves riding up too much. Either the small or the medium should fit you in the chest area as you don't weight much.

Responded on

No way should you be in a Large. The Small is a perfect size for you.

wrist gaiter, is that where the gloves/mittens attach to the the jacket?

Responded on

No, a wrist gaiter is usually a lycra sleeve (that is connected to you jacket's sleeve) you put your hand through to stop snow and moisture from getting up the arm of your jacket. Check out the pictures up top. The black around the hand is the wrist gaiter. The grey is where it connects to the lining of the jacket.

The Packer Jacket does not have wrist gaiters.

Responded on

No wrist gaiters on this jacket. You can look at the Autograph Jacket, it has awesome gaiters.

Responded on

Yes it does have wrist gaiters, and the removable hoody gives you even more protection for your wrists from the elements.
