Special Blend Unit Jacket - Men's - 2010

Street style meets sideline standards with the athletically inspired Special Blend Men's Unit Jacket. The highly breathable and DWR-coated fabric may not be the right choice for blistering sleet, but this Unit is designed to be seen on bluebird days (not hidden in a blizzard). When the sun is shining or the snow is light and dry, onlookers won't have trouble spotting you from the park lifts while you float a massive, super-smooth switch backside 180. The appliqué SB logo forms at the chest, and the rib-knit bottom hem pops with color and keeps this baggy body-cover from riding up above your waist.

Bottom Line: Bringin' street style to the hill.

Nah you'll be straight in the XXL, as long as you have baggy pants to go with. Only girls wear giant jackets and tight pants.

Yes you're a small. This jacket will keep you dry in mildly wet conditions, but you might want to choose a jacket with a higher waterproofing than 5,000. 10,000 is the next level up in terms of waterproofing.

Unit

By: Dogfunk.com Vendor Rep
September 20, 2010

The Special Blend Unit Jacket could be considered Stevie Bells pro model, it is classic special blend to a "T". This shell is 5K waterproofing and 5K breathability. It has a bit heavier feel to it, but is a shell. It is perfect for running around town or on the hill. Great jacket that comes in great colors. The Unit is legit from top to bottom. Run this for sure.

Snowboard jackets always look lame if you don't try them on with the rest of your outerwear. Throw on all your gear, Facebook a picture of yourself mean muggin in your bathroom, and watch the Likes come pouring in.

I'll spare the technical aspects...
Basically, waterproofing for snowboard gear is typically either 5000mm, 10000mm, 15000mm, or 20000mm (for high-end, expensive stuff). The higher the #, the less water will penetrate the fabric. 5000mm often works well, but if it's rainy or icy out, after awhile you'll start to feel the moisture getting through. 10000mm or 15000mm is (in my opinion) a good # for pants, especially if you're planning on spending some time playing in the snow (as opposed to on it).

In short, 5000mm is decent for a jacket (bare-minimum), but you'll feel moisture after a couple mins of leaving snow on your jacket; it's what I ride, and I'm fine with it (but my pants are 15000mm).

If that doesn't answer your question well enough, dive in here: http://backcountrybeacon.com/2010/04/waterproof-ratings-demystified/

It's called appealing to their target market which is snowboarders ages 15-25. Most snowboarders in that age range typically do drugs, so naming a jacket after the drugs they like is actually very clever because it will sell and they will make $money$, even though everyone doesnt see it as "right" their target market likes it and buys it. The bottom line is every company has their own identity and brand, and drugs and partying are very much a part of the Special Blend brand because that what the majority of the young snowboarding community is about, riding all day, partying all night, repeat all winter. I love special blend for that reason and so do a lot of other kids my age which is why they are so successful and one of the biggest brands in snowboarding. If you don't like it then stop hating and go buy some non-offensive brands like north face and patagonia, most of their stuff is very bland and boring, which probaly appeals to you, but they still work great keep you warm and dry.

I ride in Minnesota. I'm usually riding in 10 degree temperatures, and negatives sometimes, but it's usually not too windy. would this jacket be warm enough if i layered? I also found an extra small on a different site- would that fit? I'm 5' 0" and about 100 lbs

Whatup Jake. This jacket does not have insulation, only the shell material. If you layer enough, this jacket will be warm enough for frigid Midwest winters. However, it won't be ideal because you'll have wear a bunch of bulky layers which will be heavy and might restrict your movement.

For your size, the XS will be a little baggy but not too big.

At 5'10 you are kind of teetering between a medium and a large. A medium should fit, however a large is going to be a safe bet. If you are layering and want a little extra room when you're spinning off a large cliff.

I suggest a large. With layers, moving around on your board to strap in etc, a medium will be too small. When you first try it on, put on your snowboard pants too because if you try on the jacket with skinny jeans or something, it will look gigantic.
