I just bought one used and cheap, problem,I have not a key.I'm a do it myself kind of guy(locksmith wants 200 bucks) so my question is how do I get the lock mechanism out of its housinng so a key can be madebr

Responded on

Maybe that is why it was "cheap" ? Thule lock cylinders are @ $35. You won't get the system that was updated and is on the current model since @ 2009 but it should be simple to change a cylinder which will come with a new key. Good Luck.

There should be a number on the lock, and you can order a replacement key for that lock from Thule:

This will be cheaper/easier than going to a locksmith

This carrier is lightweight, and VERY easy to install. No tools required! Dual-side opening makes for easy access from both sides of the vehicle. This carrier gives us peace of mind and LOTS of extra room!!

I have the 2010 Subaru Outback (latest generation) with the new movable rack bars that swivel. I would assume that Thule has the feet attachments for the Cargo box that attach to the rack, yes????

Responded on

This should work with your racks. YES!!!

I have a 2006 Subaru Outback wagon and I am trying to decide between the Thule Atlantis 1800 and the Yakima Skybox 16 box. Both of them fit my car according to the websites. My questions are -
1) will the Atlantis 1800 leave room for me to open my hatch completely without having it hang over the front?
2) is there a big difference in the quality between the Thule Atlantis and the Yakima Skybox? The Atlantis is much more expensive, even comparing the same volume sizes between the two brands.

What are the dimensions for where the hooks lock in to the roof bars. I have a 2011 Dodge Durango and from the middle of one bar to the other is 28 inches will it fit my car?

Responded on

This will fit your car. The QuickGrip system is mounted on rails that are adjustable to accomodate different cross bar spread distances. The minimum cross bar spread is 23-5/8".

Will this model work on the 2010 Xterra without purchasing a Thule roof rack of some kind? Thanks! Yes, it will I have answered my own question. You are so helpful Kirk...why thank you man...no problem dude.

A box that would work without a rack would be the new Yakima boxes. They are easier to put on, take off, the handles are all metal, and the lids are much more robust (can open and close much easier). Currently the best boxes on the market are Yakima. You should check them out.

Easy, Durable, Streamlined, Big but not too big

I love this cargo box. The Thule Atlantis boxes are really well made and attractive with glossy finishes. They are pretty streamlined and the wind noise was not as much as I was expecting, nor was the decrease in fuel efficiency (which is definitely noticeable). In my mind a box like this that you can easily but on for your longer or more gear intensive trips is better than a bigger car that always uses more gas. This box is incredibly easy to take on and off. The box opens on both sides so you can easily reach all four of the knobs to screw the claws that wrap around your crossbars, and it takes only a few minutes to tighten or loosen them. I do need a friend to help lift the somewhat heavy, and bulky box on and off, but I can do the rest on my own. The 1800 XT is pretty big, and will take up most of the roof of a station wagon. I had about 48" bars on my car and could fit one bike rack along with the box. I've since bout 58" bars and can fit two bike racks, and maybe even three (but I haven't tried yet). The box is wide enough that I think you could fit reclining camp chairs (something on my personal gear wish list) and you can definitely fit a lot of gear in it. You cannot remove the key unless the box is locked, which helps keep you from forgetting or worse yet driving off with an open box. All in all, a superb product.
