Union Contact Pro Snowboard Binding - 2012

Designed and endorsed by backcountry freestyle legend Gigi Ruf, the Union Contact Pro Snowboard Binding delivers a never-before-seen blend of board feel, response, and comfort. By utilizing three zones of cushy EVA-injected goodness, combined with a responsive carbon-infused baseplate, the Contact Pro charges hard through the sketchiest lines and lets your board flex naturally for improved control.

  • Contact Pro highback made with Zytel nylon for lightweight durability with a fine-tuned flex
  • Contact aluminum/Zytel baseplate reinforced with carbon for extra response
  • Three separate baseplate bushing zones for ultimate dampening and board feel, with the smallest possible 'dead spot' under your feet
  • Magnesium buckles are lighter and stronger than traditional aluminum
  • Open toe straps for secure grip either over the top or around the front of your boots
  • 3D Direct Connect ankle straps for a secure, plush fit with no pressure points
  • Quick-adjust forward lean for tool-free tweaks on the fly
  • Universal disc is compatible with all binding mounting patterns and allows fine-tuned stance adjustments

Bottom Line: Flawless corked spins sold separately.

Me Gusta

By:
September 14, 2012

Hands down best binding on the market. Super light and extremely strong. The binding contacts the board on flexible Eva foam resulting in the best board flex and feel you could ask for. I ride these mostly in the park because they are a softer flex but they are still responsive enough to slay the entire mountain. Also the straps are super comfy and tweakable.

I rock a size 10.5 ThirtyTwo Lashed boot, and currently have the L/XL Union forces which feel pretty legit. I've have been thinking about getting these babies for my capita horrorscope 153 next season and was wondering if I should grab L/XL again or would my 10.5 boots feel alright in a M?

This was a few years ago so things may have changed a little, but I had forces with the lashed in a 10.5 or 11 and originally got the M. I found that it was a little tight and I had to extend everything (heel cup and toe ramp) to make it fit my boot.
I exchanged them for the L/XL which fit my boot pretty much perfect, except for some little strap adjustments. So I would say stick with L/XL. Maybe things have changed since, but the good thing is if you buy from dogfunk you can always return the M for the L/XL!

Love in it! Extremely lightweight and very tough. The only complain is to upper strap which torn over the hook of my 32 snowboots. You should take care to put your pants between upper strap and boots.

These Bindings are so Amazing!

By:
September 13, 2012

These are so responsive, and yet so flexible! They are also insanely light! Gigi Ruf, designed these himself! These bindings are a great all-mountain binding, with a unique responsive feel. They are also one of the best park bindings in the industry! You can't go wrong with this choice!

the atlas is endorsed by travis rice and is unions top of the line binding. but there are plus sides to both bindings the atlas are a little bit stiffer than the contact pros or the contacts because there designed for a more all mountain style of riding. if you went with the contacts or contact pros there very good for park, kinda soft but maximize support. the difference between the two contacts is more or less better material and lighter binding (pros) try looking into burton missions which are very reliable or forum republics. if your dead set on a union binding look into the forces as well

the highback is a lighter black then the rest of the binding. Yeah it's wack but that's how companies do it. If you look at some jackets from certain brands, it happens on there too - a colour that's pretty irrelevant will show up in the item description.
anyways, nope. Those are the two colour schemes this year. Acid Green-Purple and Black-Orange. I'm with you, I'm not really down for these colours this year, but it's either you get them and learn to love them or you don't ride. If you're really not down, you should check out the flites. They're only a little heavier, but they're just as stiff. The Highback is slightly more flexible on the flite binding as well, and they heelcup is a different material, though still just as strong. Give it a shot, you'll love them

Super light ninja turtle bindings.

By:
February 16, 2013

These bindings are crazy light! The purp/neon green color ways kill it. Very responsive and great all around the mountain or straight to the park. There are two design flaws that are minor but should be addressed; first is the toe strap buckle sticks at times when cranked down and two, the toe strap sometime slides up a little. Over all 4.5/5 for me, unions are great. I rode size 11 forum kicker with reduced footprint in M/L and fit nice and snug.

I have a set of Burton boots sized 7.5 and is unsure to go with a S/M or M/L binding. The sizing chart does not have an in-between. Any feedback would be awesome, thanks.

Edit: Got my Contact Pros today and had no problem getting the 7.5s to fit in the M/L. With another heelcup adjustment, you can probably get 1 size smaller to fit as well.

Light and powerful!

By:
February 26, 2013

Probably the best ankle strap on the market. When adjusted properly you should experience no pressure points around that zone unless it is your boot! The toe strap is a pain to center if you have larger boots with a wide toe box. High back tech is killer with all the flex up top but plenty stiff in the heal cup for great response. No need to rotate!

I got the L/XL for my size 11.5 boots. If you run into toe strap issues, try adjusting the accelerator (if you have it set forward).

4 days?

By:
January 28, 2013

These bindings are very light and responsive for my usages, all mountain riding (too old for the park).

After 4 light days of riding, the strap materials are fraying already. I'm not willing to test the quality of the materials for the rest of parts.

5 stars for the performance of the binding, 1 star deducted for the fraying.

depends on the board you have. The shaka is flexier. so if you have a regular camber board, I'd suggest you go with those. But if you have a reverse camber board, Either the contact pro or the atlas would work well. I'd go with the contact pros mainly because I'm a freestyle rider with a reverse camber board. The lightweight design would help me out immensely when hitting a feature.

January 15, 2013

Great bindings. Only reason I gave 4 and not 5
Stars is the toe clip is hard to open. I have to
Give it a few tries sometimes and with cold hands
It sucked. Other than that great fit, easy forward lean
Tweaking and great heal strap.

I had the same problem. I talked to a wizard and was taught the mystical secret of the toe buckle. Before pulling up to release, push down on the end of the toe buckle until you hear/feel it click. The toe buckle will then release and pull up and unbuckle with ease.

Not impressed

By:
December 29, 2012

I have riden union bindings now for 3 years. I had a pair of Union Force and loved them. They were good for all-mountain riding and park, and never had any problems with them. Then this year I decided to upgrade to the Contact Pros. When I first got them I thought they looked sweet and seemed like they were made of good quality. But the first day I rode on these bindings in the park the heelcup smashed in. All the paint chipped off and now I don't know what to do. When I took the heelcup off I noticed that the material was flimsy and not as nice as my Force.

It says theses are medium/stiff, and says the forces are just medium but aren't the Contact pros supposed to be softer then the forces? Which do you recommend for a mostly rail and jib board that I'll use on under 40' jumps and blasting around the mountain ever once and a while. And burton hails be a good match?

By:
September 9, 2012

Killer or filler? (1) (0)

Flag

No no no, the Contacts are softer. The Contact Pros are going to be much stiffer.
It depends on the kind of board. If your board is a flexier board, then you'll need the stability that the stiff Contact Pros offer. I ride a Reverse Camber board so I'd be getting these BECAUSE my board is so flexy. If you rep a regular-ass camber board, then get the contacts, because that offers a bit more forgiveness.
Don't get the forces if you're mostly jibbing. They're more of an all-mountain killer.
Boot match is irrelevant. If you like the burton hails, and they're comfy, just get them. Matching setups are so overrated. Whats better is if you just love all your gear as individual pieces. Together, they'll be a SICK-ASS ride, no matter how the colour scheme looks.
