Description

If they're good enough for Gigi, they're good enough for us.

Endorsed by big-mountain freestyle mastermind Gigi Ruf, the Union Contact Pro Snowboard Binding delivers a never-before-seen blend of board feel, response, and comfort. By utilizing three zones of cushy EVA-injected goodness, the Contact Pro charges hard through the sketchiest lines and lets your board flex naturally for improved control.
  • Carbon-injected Contact baseplate delivers quick response for high-speed control
  • Contact Pro highbacks eliminate all excess material for insane weight savings
  • Injected, triple-zone EVA bushings dampen shock and vibration, and improve board flex and feel underfoot
  • New Ultra Grip toe strap naturally wrap your boots for a great fit, whether you prefer over-the-toe or around-the-front
  • Magnesium buckles are half the weight and four times as strong as aluminum

2011's winter season has been rough in terms of snow thus far, so these bindings haven't been fully broken in quite yet.
However, they have seen plenty of use.

These are my Union Contact Pro's, size Large mounted on a Ride DH 2.1 Wide.

My favorite feature of these is the ankle strap. Union hit a home-run here. The padding and form molds great into my ankle, and hasn't given me any pain or discomfort at all since new.

The heelcup, baseplate, and highback feel plenty strong and responsive.

The Toe piece feels AWESOME!
I know there are some negative comments in terms of the toe piece, so here is my breakdown:

-The cap over the toe where the binding is split feels fabulous. It forms great to my boot, and gives great hold and pressure backwards into the bindings. The comments are in regards to the ladder buckle.

On the ankle strap there is a quick release tab. On the toe-peice there is not. You have to fold the ladder strap awkardly. I wish that the toe strap did not operate like this, and simply had the quick release tab just as the ankle strap.

I have not had any issues with the toe ladders not holding or breaking, and they don't feel as though they were poorly made to me. It's just a different release system.

4 star binding for me. 99% there, I just wish the toe strap was an identical release to the ankle strap.

So Far So Good

After hearing all of the Union hype, I finally decided to scoop a pair of Contact Pro's. The red and black colorway looks super clean, without being tacky. The tech sets the bindings over though, with a flexible highback that moves with you, and straps that hold you snug while providing comfortable padding on the inside. These crazy-light bindings are worth every penny.

I just bought these to replace the Burton Cartels I've been riding for the last 2 seasons. I have them on a Never Summer Premier F1 and day one I noticed better board feel. The binding is also stiffer, but has flex in the right places. I notice better energy transfer from my boots to the board in turns.
Can't wait 'til the real season starts. C'mon lake effect...

crazy bindings, kids talk about the toe srap, but it is fine for me. The flex is amazing so good for grabs and presses. Also the back of it is sexy. The hole thing has pading too. For last it has very good straps.

I like these bindings for all reasons except for the shape of the toe cup. The toe strap is supposed to be convertible but is much better fitting on the top of the boot. Hoping for it to mold to the boot as i ride them more.

Great looking binding, a little stiffer than I thought it would be but still good. I've been riding this binding for 4 days now and the toe strap is no bueno. I wear Ride Strapper Keeper boots and the toe strap just doesn't fit well at all. The shape of the toe strap just looks like it won't work. The bottom of the strap really doesn't contact my boot so the pressure is mostly on the toe and not the front of my boot. I rode Burton Triads previously which the toes strap is absolutely perfect. I really like these bindings so I'll probably end up putting Burton cap straps on them to make them work like they should.

You should try this binding out in the shop to make sure the toe strap will work with your binding. This is the first pair of Union's Ive owned. Its shocking that they don't have a better fitting toes strap that would work with just about every boot. After buying I've now seen more reviews about how bad the toe strap is for others.

You should tighten down your strap over night and the toe-cap will mold to your boot.

The flex is awesome! The binding actually moves with the board unlike my old ride bindings that just stayed put. Perfection.

I have heard great things about Union's Bindings, but have heard similar things about the Toe-Caps, is this an on going problem?

I received my bindings yesterday and first impression was "DAMN!!!! that sh*t is light!!!!!!!" you can tell the bindings are well made (even if it's made in china...) they look GREAT, very light, the straps are cushy and comfortable. so you're prob wondering why i gave it 3 stars instead of 5???

well, I had a set of Union Force's 3 years back and loved the bindings but HATED the weak-a** toe strap/toe cap. (whatever you want to call it, it DID NOT WORK!!!!) they constantly slipped off, no matter how i adjusted them... so i went back to burtons.

fast forward 3 years, i saw these online and thought i would give them a shot again. after a test fitting with my boots last night, the toe caps seemed like they might slip off again. i'll do an actual "field test" and report back next month.

***Updated review 12/19/2011***

So I've had a chance to put in some days on these bindings and I'm changing my initial rating of 3 to 4.5. bindings are very responsive, NEVER had any issues with the new toe caps.(they held GREAT!!!) especially for 219, I feel like they are one of the BEST bindings on the market!

Love these bindings. Rode them 100+ days last year and they still ride like a champ.
