Hey guys, I have a question. I am an all-mountain freestyle rider, I skate the mountain, bomb the mountain, huck off cat-tracks, drop some cliffs, whatever i'm feeling, duck into the park to hit a few rails, maybe a booter, then slip back into the trees and find some powder stashes. I probably spend about 35% of my time in the park. Do you think I'd be happier with Contacts or Forces?
I was a little scared to try these out with the areas that touch the board. I thought they would be way to flexy and that I wouldn't be able to do good tricks. First run down they did feel a little weird, but throughout the day I started to get good at them and they felt like pretty great bindings. I liked that I didn't have any pain from tightening them and they kept my foot in good. As much as I liked these bindings I think I will send them back and stick with my contrabands.

CMYK...OFF THA HOOK! So soft. So ajustable. Anybody who rides 32s shuld get these. I've got 86 FASTTRACKS and they wrk great!Prety nice pric point 2. Get sum 'fore dey gone!
hey dudes, my boy let me borrow a pair of contacts i believe from last season, all orange (see link below)...they are a M/L and i have a thirty two lashed...it seemed like they were too wide. Any ideas on what the deal is?
Yea man they look sick. I have the Contacts in CMYK but last years and I love them. I also ride 32's(lashed and TM2's) as I find they fit the best in the cage. Union and 32 for lifeeee!!!
These are bindings are so sick! Awesome for park riding, low back and medium flexible. Super light and the very affordable. I would recommend these to any looking to get a pair of union bindings.
hey this is for anyone that knows do these bindings ship to canada and how to i order them cause i need a xl cause i have size 13 feet but i dont know how to set them to xl so i can order
Rockn these in L/XL on a 159 Banana and I cant get the binding centred, too much heel overhang with the settings max'd out on last hole.... Ive lost a few screws on them (back heel& toe twice) apart from that gripe.. The binding is super light and Super Flexy! will probably get a 156 Wide and keep the these till they die!!! You will bone out and press the shit out of your repetitions if you rock these bad boys!!!
@Gage...Its a toe strap setup doznt work like a cage
Yup, they definately will. And they will feel like youre not even wearing bindings. They will also make your board flex more 'true' because of the contact points and how much the binding actually touches the board. I love mine and its gonna be hard to find better outside of the Union brand
Yea you will fit no problemo bro. The Contacts are the only one with 3 different sizes, s/m, m/l and l/x, so you will find a good fit either way. If not, you can look at the Flites, but personally I would go with the Contacts
The Union Contact is a Sick binding for park & Jibbing! If you like to Skate the mountain then Get this binding b4 they are all sold out!!!!! It's got a buttery soft flex & has Uber cumfy straps. With only 19% of the binding in contact, all the EVA under foot gives the board a much truer flex making presses so fun & easy. Try a pair & you won't be disappointed!
I would go for the Contacts bro. I have a pair of '09, love them and they are still kicking strong till this day. The Shakas have the split baseplate design and hinged disk to allow your board to flex more true, but thats where the Contacts shines. With only 18% of the binder touching the deck on the Contacts, it takes the place of the hinged design of the Shakas and allows your board to actually flex more true than the Shakas. Contacts are more comfortable, better design, beter buckles, damper and less chatter because of the EVA foam, and for $10 less, yes please. Oh and this binder takes anything you throw at it and more. Not only a sick park binder, but a great all around binder. I take it off 60' booters and I never wash out. Union all the way
Im 99% sure they will. Burton made the 'retro discs' to be compatable with with other binders out there. The majority of binders have the same size base plate, so you should be good. Im sure Burton realized that not everyone will rock the Burton deck and Burton binder set-up, so im pretty sure it will work
I just bought these bindings to go with my MFM Classic. They are alright but not nearly as responsive as my Rome Arsenals. It could be that i just haven't found and dialed in my settings since I was riding them for the first time. I must say they are very light though. I also do not like how you undo the toe strap by pulling up on the ratchet.
I just bought a K2 Turbo Dream 156. I wear a 10.5 boot. I ride a little of everything. I'd say I"m an Int. to advanced rider. I'm looking at the contacts and the forces. Any recomendations on size and binding?
I got forces and i mean they are tight but i feel like they arnt quite as good a cushioned ride like the contacts im looking to go back to the contacts i like their feel better and i ride everything from backcountry to park but the forces give great support and with the any union your going to have a strong binding. Go with the more cushiony ride i feel like id rather have that than support i got good boots for support i need cushion for doing the cliffs on days the snow on the landing was blown away and contacts could of helped...
I bought the union contacts at the start of this year (after i broke my burton customs) and I'm never buying another binding other than unions again!! These bindings brought out the flex in my board when I was doing jibs (I had never been able to nosepress like I did the first couple times i used the contacs), they made landings so much nicer off jumps and I just took them out for some knee deep powder turns and they did just fine. They handle everything really well and I would recomend these to anyone who rides park a lot!
Well both have almost the same design, so its kinda up to the feel you want. The Contacts will allow your board to flex more 'true' because only 18% of the binder is actually touching the board. On the other hand the Flites are a few ounces lighter, but touch about 40% of the board. I personally have last years Contacts and I love them. I take them from steeps to trees and obv kill park. My personal opinion, get the Contacts as they are a comfier binder and the cage of the binder is a lil wider for a better fit. But really for around $20 more, I would stick with the Contacts. Hope this helps
Its not really a toe cap, more of a convertable strap. So you can rock it over the toes like a strap or infront like a cap. But they are not like Flux's or Burton's that have the full cap
Yea definatley. They are super fun in the park and not too bad everywhere else. There not the best all-mountain binding, but they're still fine out of the park, and they ride like a dream on all park features.
Oh most definately bro. I take my Contacts everywhere are they hold perfect. Plus with the Contacts it allows your board to flex more true beacuse they only touch about 18%-20% of the board. Seeing as you are ridin a rocker, you will notice a difference with the Contacts. Hope this helps bro
My boy loaned me a size M/L contact from last year (2010 all orange models)...i tried using them with my 32 Lashed size 9.5 from this year (2011)...it seemed like my boots were too wide and they didnt fit. would that be the case with this years? isnt M/L supposed to go up to a 10?
Well its only really snagging on the outer tread of the sole for me. And yes the Lashed are one of the widest foot-beds on the market, and are usually the same year in and year out. As for the Contacts, im not too sure if the cage design has changed much. But by the looks of bothe of the years, it has not. I dont know why you are havin such a hard time with them tho? But for some reason I have just made mine fit proper. It could also be that I have tweaked the shit out of mine to get the best fit. But really thats all its about right, comfort and fit. Style is good too, but for me its all about the ride and comfort of the product.(Funny to say because I have the CMYK print and they are pretty flashy lol) I would just play around with them and you should be able to get them to fit. Move the heel cup, ramps on the base, and straps and im sure you will make em feel nice.
The bindings my friend let me borrow are actually from 2008...do you think they updated the cage size for their newer models? I did read/hear that the lashed has a pretty wide profile..but i have wide feet so it was the best fit for me. Seems like yours are fitting into the cage in some way...on my boys binders with my boots..tehre is no way to get them in tehre...
Welcome to the world of riding a pair of 32 Lashed lol. They have one of the widest treads on the market and a lot of people complain of the fit with them in the cages of their binders. I have a pair of last years Contacts and I have a pair of '10 Lashed and '09 TM2's. Its the same with my Lashed as well. The tread comes too far out off of the sole so it snags on the cage of the binder. Ive gotten used to it, or I just switch up to my TM2's as they are skinnier profiled boot. But dont worry because you're not the only one with this problem. Ive just found a way to set them in the cage so that they snag less. And yes you are rite about the fit, -11=M/L and +11=L/XL. And yes, its not the binder, its the boot. So the fit will be the exact same. Just switch up the boot for a better fit. Hope this helps bro
Nope, not at all. Ive been riding my Contacts for 2 seasons now and have had no problems with them. I ride at least 100+ days and there is minimal wear on them from abuse. Union makes a solid binder that lasts and takes care of you in anything
One start for you contact! Should be zero but they wont let me! Not enough options for centering bindinigs. I messed with these for like 3 hours trying to get them centered but they simply dont have enough options to customize. The baseplate is a terrible design and they move around on the board unless you tighten the screws everytime! the toe cap is not a toe cap at all is more of an old school over the toe strap which is crap! Wayyyy to much hype for nuthin. Ef union!!!!
BURTON CUSTOMS????????? I have a pair of Customs and they suck ASS first time on the hill toe strap peels, second time I'm walking to my car the damn toe strap completely falls off!!!! Honestly I don't own a pair of Contacts but would sure as hell buy a pair of Contacts over a pair of Customs. Burton makes everything rather good EXCEPT for bindings and that is coming from a guy with a Burton Hero board, Burton Custom bindings, Burton Moto boots, Burton Launch jacket, and Burton Cargo pants. So don't fucking say Burton Customs are good because they SUCK.
Did you try blue loc tight Zero? Sorry to hear ya had issues with the bindings, I am thinking about picking up a set. Soooo what did you do with them? Return them or do you have them laying around? :-D
zero: any screw on any binding will loosen up over time and they should be checked frequently. I try to check mine every day or two and rarely has any of the screws ever moved very much. The binding has never moved around on me while riding.
Oh and I ride a wide deck with L/XL bindings and ive NEVER had any toe or heel drag. And its not like im mad ducked either. Centering is pretty easy if you ask me
These bindings are sick. If you cant get the right stance, then I dunno. Me personally, im set -15 and 15 with a width of 28.5 tail to binding, and nose to binding. I ride a true twin Rome Machine and have never had any issues with the 'proper stance' for me. They are suuuper comfy, suuuuper light and are really the best park biding ive ridden, and I demo a lot of shit. Pair these up with a reverse cambered deck and ur 5-0's will look ur on a Captain Morgans commercial. Basically allows your board to flex more properly with minimal contact from binding to board. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Maybe ZERO just got a lemon, if they even make those lol. But if all of these reviews tell another story, so who you really gonna believe? I would go with the majority of reviews saying that they are SICK!!! Because they are!! But like I said, everyone has their own opinion. Its just who you listen to. Bottom line, just get them if you wanna ride the comfy train to stardome :)
If the screws arent getting loose on you with that track mounting system base plate they have then youre just not riding hard enough! I got the screws as tight as possible! They tell you in the instructions that you have to tighten them every time you ride anyway! What the hell is that? I couldnt get them centered laterally (too much toe hangin or too much heel hangin) thats just a fact! they only have 3 options for that, which is rediculous! not everone fits into those 3 options! I guarantee youre not exactly centered! Even though you think you are! Im sorry to say it because im not the biggest burton fan but they have the best bindings! Ive tried them all and burtons are simply the best in every aspect. I think burton is a sellout brand but the fact is they have the best toe cap of any binding, and you can center your feet no matter what size boot you have! I think the customs are their best park binding! I know a lot of people will disagree but they probably have never tried them so they cant talk anyway!
I have never had any problems with the bindings moving around on me. A screw is a screw, if you don't tighten them enough then of course they are gonna move around, any binding will do that. I have 5 pair of union bindings and have never had a problem getting them centered. Good luck finding a better pair of park bindings, because you wont
the reason they dont have a tow cap is because the toe cap is actually patented by another company and other companies pay royalties to use the design. Union doesnt. So they try the best they can to get around the toe cap but it is very difficult
and you gotta be smarter than your keyboard genius! What are you even talking about? Do you have these bindings? If they work for you then you're either not centered or you got lucky! all i wanted was a 22 7/8" stance width and my bindings centered so I get no heel or toe drag. Tried every option possibe couldnt get that. Ive been riding for 14 seasons so I think I know what im talking about. Save your two cents for your piggy bank! Next time bring kneepads if your getting on your knees!
Well the scallywag doesnt have a super wide waist to begin with, so trying to slap on the L/XL might be a lil tight. But seeing as you are still in the M/L range, I would say go with those. I ride a pair of 32 Lashed and TM2's and I find that the TM2's fit better in the cage of the binder rather than my Lashed due to the tread/sole width. I have last years in CMYK and I ride L/XL with 12's and these bad boys are sick. But go with the M/L as the L/XL will prob give too much room in the cage.
I have last years model of the Nitro Swindle 152. Would these bindings go good with it or would it be too soft? I prefer a more playful ride thats relatively soft, but I don't want a noodle. I'm looking to do mainly jibs and small jumps, but I want to be able to occasionally hit some bigger jumps without having to worry.
They'll be perfect. I too enjoy a playful and fun ride. I've got the union dlx's (slightly softer than these) on my 152 stairmaster and love them. I think you'll be very happy with the contacts.
Well I have a pair of 32 TM2's and a pair of 32 Lashed and they both fit differently. I personally have these binders and they are sick!! My TM2's fit a little better seeing as they are a skinnier profiled boot compared to the Lashed. So its all dependant on how wide your boot is. You are right on the cusp of both sizes, and really could go either way. If your boot is wider then go for the L/XL as the cage will give you more room to adjust. Also, are your feet still growing? If they are then def go for the L/XL, just size them to fit the boot. But if your DC's are relatively a skinny boot, then you will be good with the M/L. Hope this helps :)
Are these bindings too soft? I ride mostly park, but I like to ride other stuff too. I'd say like 80% park 20% trees, groomers, pow, and whatever. I ride on the east coast to, so it's pretty icy and what not. Are these to soft for all that? Im not too worried because I ride mostly park and im used to soft bindings (burton customs), but im just curious. How do these compare to the customs in terms of flex?
I take my Contacts from park to steeps to trees and everything in between. They are a softer binder, but they will still hold you through what you wanna get through. They are a little softer than the Force's, but not by an extreme amount. I would say the Contacts are like a 2.5/5 and the Forces are like 3.5/5 in stiffness. The Force's will give you that little extra hold and support, but will still allow you to flex ur park muscles no problemo. And I dont know how they compare as I do not ride Burton, sorry bro
Why are you riding a wide deck with size 9 or 10 boots? I ride a wide deck and the waist width is 260(26cm), and I have size 12's!! But for your size of boot you should go for the M/L binders. But if you are rockin a wide deck, I would switch unless you like more board under your feet. My feet are 2 sizes bigger and I ride a skinnier deck than you do, so dont even worry about dragging. Even if you got a L/XL (but dont because it will be too big for your boot), you wouldnt drag. Hope this helps
yeah sure am! buuut just realised that you cant ship union into australia!! devo!!! gonna have to do more research i think.. any good bindings that you can actually ship to aus??
I'm a total beginner that recently purchased a GNU carbon credit board. I heard that softer bindings are better for beginners and am looking at the DLX, Contacts and the Force. Which binding would you suggest out of the three? I'm leaning toward the Contacts since I have a reverse camber board.
They are all good choices. The Contact's are a softer binding, but not by a whole lot. Softer bindings make it more forgiving when you make a lil mistake, and allows you to correct it a lil easier than with a stiff binder. I would class it like this from stiff to soft..
Data's, Force's, and the DLX's and the Contact's are around the same.
And you are right about wanting to go for the Contact's with a reverse cambered board. Seeing as only 18% of the binder actually makes contact with the board, it allows your board to flex more true. I ride mainly park, but I take my Contact's from park to steeps to trees and everything in between. I LOVE them. And for the price, comfort, durability AND tech, Union is the way to go. I would say go for the Contact if you wanna get better and just have a blast while learning. But lemme tell you, you wont go back to anything else after buying binders from Union. Hope this helps
I have had my Contacts for two years now and I love them. Smooth, solid flex throughout the straps and high-back. 18% of the binder actually touching the board to allow for a more natural flex of the board. Now this being said, they are softer than the Force's or Data's, but not by an extreme amount. I like to pair mine up with a lil stiffer boot (I have a pair of Lashed and TM2's that I switch up for different nights). I ride mainly park and I hit 50's no problem at all. No wash out, no "omg im way too loose to ride out", none of that. If you mainly hit booters tho, I would say go for the Force's as they will give you that little extra to help out with landings. Ppl also say they are super soft bec they are prob riding a reverse cambered board, with softer boots too. So obv the ride is gonna feel loose and soft bec of all of that. I do not ride a reverse cambered board (Rome Machine), and like I said switch it up from a softer boot to stiffer. You will be good hitting 60's with these tho. Just pair them up with a stiffer boot and you will not wash out. Ps... these are really comfy and a great binder. 'Park specific', yet I take them from park to trees to steeps to bk. Hope this helps bro
I actually went from the Contacts to the 390's last season and I miss my Contacts so much! If you like hitting rails and jibs the Contact is definitly the binding for you. Even though it is rated as super flexi it can still hold its own when it comes to jumps, and all that flex means steezier tweaks for you! ;D I hate my 390's. Going from the Contacts to the 390's it feels like they have close to no flex. Contacts all the way bro!
Like I said in the other question box you posted for the 390's, go for the Contact's. Lighter, cheeper in price, comfier, and built better. If you mainly jib, the Contact's are where its at. This being said, you can still take them to the trees, steeps, groomers and whatever and wherever you wanna play. They will be there from first chair to last call with no problems. Just get them and then you can come back and say how much you love them, as we all do :)
Yes they will. I have these in the L/XL and have a size 12 foot and I have no overhang and it is not tweaked to the biggest setting. You will def have to play around with it to fit just perfect, but it is definately do-able. And these bindings are absolutely sick btw
I would say go for the M/L. Unless you think your feet are gonna grow more than 2 sizes in the next year or so, then go for the L/XL. But I would say go for the M/L, it will be juuuust fine. And ps, these bindings are sick!!!
I'm currently riding the Rome Artifact 1985 reverse cam. I can't decide if I want to go with the Union Forces or Union Contacts... Most of my riding will be east (ice) coast parks...
id go with the contacts.... but really they both are great bindings and you will be happy with either pair Union makes the great bindings..... hoped that helped
Ive been thinking of getting these bindings but i hear the toe cap slips of a lot. Does anybody know how well the toe caps stay on thirtytwo lashed boots?
Yea man and I plan to ride them this year aswell. And im not the 1-time-a-month rider either. Im talking like 100+ days in the season, aslong as the Ontario weather helps out lol. But yes they have lasted me and still will last as long as you take decent care of them. But if you have any trouble with screws getting lose, take them out and put some lock-tight on it. But My next pair is either gonna be a pair of Force's for a lil stiffer ride, or a pair of Data's. But like I said, they are bomb-proof and redick comfy. Just go through them and set them up as you like. This might be why ppl have been losing their toe strap or strap coming lose. Set them up to YOUR boot, as you should any binder. They are a great buy tho, trust me!!!!
Yah it helps I Read mostly reviews that said the top cap slips of but if you've really ridden them for 2 years and have no problems sounds pretty good thanks for your advice
Well seeing as I've riden my Contacts with no problems for 2 yrs, I dont know who you are talking to about these. Anywaysss, no they do not slip at all. The synthetic material over the toe strap hold ur foot right where u crank them down to be. I have a pair of Lashed and a pair of TM2's and I have had no peoblems with them fitting. The lashed are a larger profiled boot tho, with a wider tread/sole. So they fit a lil snug in the cage of the binding. My TM2's fit better seeing as they are a skinnier boot. But I have had these for a while now and I have NO problems with them. Really, Union is the ONLY binding company I will put on my deck now. Tech is sweet, completely bomb-proof, style is sick. Just an all around great binding company. Plus with a 2yr warranty, you really can't go wrong. Trust me, just buy them and you will not be dissapointed. Hope this helps :)
