Good Shovel

Although a telescoping handle would have made it a great shovel, the incorporation of the probe into the handle is the shizzle for a compact and light unit. The shovel head to handle link is a little loose, but you don't notice this when cutting blocks or 'paddling' snow.
The probe is quick and fairly easy to deploy from the shovel, even with gloves on.
Decent sized shovel head to move plenty of snow quickly, but not so big that smaller users would struggle with it.

Bought a tour light probe and used it for years. Was doing some avy drills, and 1 section of the probe got bowed (Worst conditions possible and user error). Voile took care of it no questions asked. That lead me to purchase this shovel. The blade fits in even my smallest pack (Dakine Heli Pack), and the shovel handle fits great on the side. The shovel size is ideal for fast digging. The probe is completely legit. I have bought shovel probe combinations from other companies in the past only to be disappointed with the probe length (too short).

Does anyone know what probe it is? The spec only says it's 2.6m. I'm wondering if it's a Voile Tourlight which matches the length but I can't tell from the picture. Thanks.

I like the combo idea it works well. The one downfall is that the handle is too long to fit well in my osprey pack. Other than that it's a soild shovel.

I was looking to buy a new shovel and also pick up a probe at REI and for the cheaper ones there they would have run me 50-60 bucks a piece. If you're in the market for convenience or just a good deal this is the best option I found.

Yes, It fits perfectly. I use the Mission pack, but the heli pro handle holder is exactly the same. This is one of the lightest full shovel/probe setups around and super easy to use.

On the shovel itself it has two holes, one on each side of the shovel. I am wondering what these are for. I could imagine they could be used to fasten the shovel to a backpack, etc. For example, picture the letter U, where U is the shovel. At the top of each side of the U there is a hole. What is this for? Actually, you can see the holes on the picture above.

The holes are for making it a snow anchor, or for making a rescue sled. But if you want you can strap it to your pack.-----------------It can also be used to make an ultra-light shovel sling to carry it without a backpack.

Does the probe fall out when the handle is not attached to the blade?

The probe only comes out when you want it too. I dig all day with the probe safely secured inside the shovel handle, and when the handle shaft is detached from the shovel blade, the probe is secured in the shaft by a spring clip on one end and the t-handle on the other. In short: the probe only comes out when you remove it via the removal of the T-handle.I've had this setup for 3 years.

Yeah, at 8.5 feet it is a little shorter then average but it will get the job done fine.8.5 feet of snow equates to many tons of snow that will have to be removed in order to find the victim. Any deeper of a burial and the chances are very slim you could even dig them out in time.

Loved this shovel and probe combo. I like the whole design and durability, but wish the shovel had a D handle instead of T. Other than that, bomber.

Great engineering of a combo. Shovel head is very stable when attached to handle. Pro is easy and fast to get out. Design makes for effective digging.
