Volcom pulls out all the stops.
The Volcom Men’s Magma T.D.S. Jacket’s Thermal Defense System practically melts the blizzards away. Gore-Tex 3-layer laminate construction with fully taped seams guarantees total dryness on the deepest days, while strategically placed down panels offer low-bulk bonus insulation for ripping big lines during the coldest months. Volcom also went so far as to add a pant-to-jacket zippered interface, waterproof zippers, and a full gamut of pockets.
- Quick-cinch hood shuts out backcountry winds
- Stretch powder skirt keeps deep snow from going down your pants
- Recco Avalanche Recovery System may help patrol locate you in an inbounds slide
- Underarm zippers provide ventilation when needed
- Super Suede chin guard wont chafe your skin
- Pocket access hem cinch seals out wind from the bottom

Is the hood removable?
Is the hood removable?
No, its fixed.
this jacket is trick...
Volcom Magma in -25 weather
Took this jacket for a test into -25 to -30,
degrees waether keeps you warm, and dry,
although sitting on a lift for 15min in -25 will be chilly obviously.
Left side riri-zip cracked so now doesnt work, cannot
undo it so the pocket is unaccessible. No idea if
If its due to cold weather.
Also the way i carry my board seems to have scraped off the thread and outer fabric a bit. Bizarre never happened to any of my other AK gear.
I think construction wise, its not bad..., good addition of extra details, stuff does fall out of the inside pocket though, so needs a closure device for that.
Quality of construction still rates below AK IMHO.
Messy/rough sewing details etc.
Face mask works okay . tends to freeze up, -25 deg
i guess is why.reminder to self, stop drooling.
Would be better if it is removable so i can wash that.
I think it will last a couple seasons, perhaps
longer if i dont do any backcountry, but that wont happen.
Its a pity as the colour way and design is hot,
just let down by construction detailing, which
it shouldnt be for the price.
Overall verdict , not bad. If Volcom upped the
construction quality or the factory in china did,
would get more stars.
its super sick
i only had the jacket for to days but before i returned it because it was to red and exchages it for the bjorn jacket theses jackets are amazing super functional everything works very well but i think they need to put the inside pocket back the way it was i keep dropping stuff out of it besides that. i think the jackets are amazing and if you are super rich or just have the money to spend these jackets are unsurpassed by any other jacket and i know because i buy 2 to 3 new jackets a year and this one takes the cake.
This is a great coat, i've been out in days where i get absolutely covered with manmade snow, sleet, ice, rain and not a drop ever goes through the jacket, i always stay dry and warm with this coat while others would have been soaked and i would have been cold. Definitely worth the price because you don't get wet and you stay warm
question about the design style, Ive seen...
question about the design style, Ive seen a different variation of the black and red pattern on another site, are your product images exact or is the actual jacket also different,
Hey Daniel. You're correct, the red/black pattern does vary slightly from jacket to jacket. No worries though, they're all dope.
What are the breathability/waterproofing...
What are the breathability/waterproofing ratings for this coat
They are around 20k or more but they are guaranteed which means you wont get wet at all.
This jacket says it has the Recco Avalanche...
This jacket says it has the Recco Avalanche Recovery System with it, does that mean it has a transceiver with it?
No. Just the passive radio transmitter (Recco Chip).
Speaking of Recco chips, here's a friendly notice:
The Recco chip is not a safety precaution. The only thing that will help eider you or your friends if you survive being struck by an avalanche is that you all have (and know how to use) avalanche beacons.
The Recco is a "passive radio transmitter" that is activated by a radio field/electromagnetic waves. The waves reacts with the Recco chip and makes it transmit a radio frequency. The gear to activate the chip is normally fitted to a standby helicopter at base camp of HUGE resorts - your local mountain probably does not have this equipment.
If you survive being struck by an avalanche the first 20 minutes are essential for your survival. I'm sorry to say the Reacco gear wont reach you in time.
In short: Recco is for finding your remains, not survival.
