No, it's not like the waist gaiter on the Annex. The adjustable waist band is Velcro tabs inside the waist band so you can tighten the waist if you need. It's not meant to seal out snow as the Annex waist gaiter.

I've worn these pants 50 days already this season. Been in every condition possible... Snow, hail, rain, sun, wind... They are warm when you need them to be! And, cool when you need them to be!
The only improvements needed are CROSS-FLOW VENTING like burton pants. And... BIGGER POCKETS AND CROTCH OPENING! It's kind of a pain to get the trouser trout out to handle bidnis! But the extremely high quality materials and craftsmanship make up for it!
