If you hit your head against the Bar End Caps, you still might knock yourself out, but at least you won't need stitches.
Yakima Bar End Caps, sold in sets of 4, are a handy piece of gear to have on your Yakima rack. End Caps protect both your head and your crossbars from bumps and bruises. Crossbars do not come with end caps, so if you're building a rack, pick yourself up a set of these to cap things off.

Caps that end the bars
A few notes about the end caps from my recent rack purchase and install:
-- If you buy a set of Q-towers, they include the 4 end caps, no need to buy separately. Unless...
-- You don't read ahead in the rack setup instructions and put the end caps on before sliding the tower feet onto the bars. One of the caps was a tight enough fit that I destroyed it trying to get it off. Good thing I had the extras!
-- Other than that, they fit fine, install easily, and work as intended.
Yakima End Caps
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Just what I needed to finish my Yakima rack and get it looking nice! Perfect fit, flush with the bars
No more bloody racks!
It is pretty hard not to like these. They do exactly what they say. And they keep you from busting your head open whenever you're not paying attention!
Like a glove
- Gender: Male
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
These end caps cap the ends so well you'd think they were made for these ends. One time I ended up in the hospital, the size of a Luv Sac bean bag, after being stung by all the hornets that had made their home in my bars. That was a bad day. And these end caps end cap so much better than my leftover clay after making claymation star trek figurines. And its nice when you bang your head on them - no more core samples of my noggin.
Yakima End Caps
These do what they say. Also included with the Yakima Railgrab Towers, so no need for a pair if you are also picking up the towers.
Really cap the ends
Man these are the best caps for Yakima bars available....these end caps really cap the ends and are better then rags and tennis balls...although the tennis balls add more flavorflav.
Prevents rust and attacks
another necessary piece for your roof rack. Unless you want mileage to beat on the bars and possibly rust them, get these. Also banging your head on them would definitely hurt and is never good
Nothing hurts worst than taking a core sample of our head. Nothing bleeds more than a head wound. If you shelling out the dough for bars, protect your head. They look better and are cheaper than a hockey helmet, and who want to wear a hockey helmet all day?
Saved me from accidental bumps, & cuts
If you are accident prone like me these are an added neccesity to your rack. Nothing like standing up and whacking your head on a metal bar.
They stay in place and I haven't lost one yet.
I bought the end caps b/c reviews said they were great and were not included. I must be a lucky one, my cross bars had the end caps included.
Rust & Noise
I find it ridiculous that Yakima doesn't include these with the bars. However, they keep the bars from filling up with water & rusting, and they prevent additional wind noise if you drive with the windows open or the top off. The rack ends can scratch you, your bike, your ski P-Tex, your kayak, etc, etc, so for functionality, they are a necessity.
What is there to say about end caps. They're boring but necessary.
Yakima End Caps
They fit so tight I had to put them on with a hammer. Those bad boys won't be going anywhere.
Bare Ends for Awhile?
Had to super glue in. Fit loose but much better than naked end-holes.
