I have a Yakima Frontloader rack on my car. The ease of installation make me worry slightly about how easy it would be to steal. Purchasing and installing the SKS lock cores made me feel just that much more secure about my investment. To me they are totally worth the cost.

Replacing some old locks on my old ankle biter. Add a little security to your rack, and keep your gear secure.

I bought the Fork Lift rack and needed a few locks. These are easy to install and work perfectly.

Haven't had them long enough to comment on durability. Initially hesitated to purchase because of the added expense ($35), but now glad I did because the added deterrent provides peace of mind.

Write your question here...How do you replace these cores in a Yakima cable lock for a car-top bike carrier?

There should be a middle point on the locks between lock and unlock. Turn the key to this point and the core should come out as well.

do these work with yakima hully rollers?

No they don't. You will need to get the Boat Locker to secure boats to the rack. Currently there isn't a way to use SKS locks to lock the Hully Rollers to the cross bars. Again, the Boat Locker can be used to secure them to the rack system.

easy to install! added piece of mind when getting beers after a good day on the hill. A little pricey but better than replacing your gear!

it is a good to have a core system where you are able to buy more cores that mach up with the key you already have. I have had durability issues with them though. 2 out of the six that i have for my ski/bike rack just wont turn and thats only after a couple years of hard use.

I had a similar issue - one of my lock cores has stopped turning. Glad I could buy replacement cores without having to replace the lock.

After riding around in the weather for a couple of years, the locks opened right up when I decided to switch the rack to my new truck. Other locks would have seized in the conditions these locks endure.

They are nothing special, until you consider that they keep your stuff from being stolen. They work like they should, and I haven't had any serious problems with my old ones either. sometimes the key won't turn, but take the key out and re-insert and it has been working for 5+ years now and just bought another set for my new Yakima boat rack. works well.

I already have two lock cores. Can I buy two more that are keyed the same as the two I already have?

Yes, talk to a Yakima dealer (like your local bike shop) and they can order the lock cores for you. If you really only need two, it'd be far easier (and only ~$5 more expensive) to order the 4-pack of SKS lock cores.http://www.backcountry.com/store/YAK0018/Yakima-SKS-Lock-Cores-4-pack.html

The SKS Lock Cores are super simple to use. Just insert the key and stick them in. I used this set of two with my King Cobra Bike Rack. The bike rack only took one lock, so I'm going to use the other one with my old ski rack.

The locks were very easy to install and work great. I haven't been boarding yet so I'm not sure about weathering, but so far so good.
