Works Well Enough
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I have both SprocketRocket and ForkLift racks on my car. If you can afford the few extra bucks, go with the SprocketRocket. The skewer is superior to this one. That said, this one works pretty well, once you figure-out how to hold the bike onto the rack in a furious crosswind while trying to adjust the tension of the skewer to fit.
The last skewer got bent because I thought it'd be a really neat idea to drive my bike-laden car into a parking garage. The result was a few saddle replacements and a bent skewer. The new unit works fine and transferring the lock core from the broken skewer is really easy if you still have the key blank provided with the core kit. If you don't have a Yakima core, though, this won't lock and isn't the most secure.

While taking it down my bike blew over while attached and bent the skewer screw (as well as the end of my fork.) I had unhooked the rear wheel, but for some reason let go of the bike frame just when a gust hit.
Yakima not so cool as to replace the single screw... (I have only spent +1000 on the sky box, q towers, roof rack, etc...) I'm unimpressed.
I already had the cores. I have not had other problems with this piece though and it has held up fine while driving from Salt Lake to Moab and even just around Salt Lake with bike attached.
Miss leading title

This item is not a Locking Skewer. You must purchase the lock separately and end up spending more money. I needed a Locking Skewer when I ordered this item, I still do not have one. It is easy to use, just does not lock.
I think Wally misunderstood my question...
I think Wally misunderstood my question or rather I Asked it poorly. I want to use the locking skewer to lock a loose wheel in the fork acc. on the rack? I am using a fork lift to secure the bike. Does this make sense?
Ah, I see what you are asking now. Didn't know you were asking in terms of securing a front wheel into the Yakima Wheel Fork accessory with the Yakima Universal Locking Skewer. I would advise against it as most people use the actual front wheel skewer of the bike on the Wheel Fork accessory with firm resistance for a secure fit.
People with truck bed racks would then use the Locking Skewer to securely attach the fork of the bike itself to a Yakima Bedhead or Blockhead rack.
You could also have a roof rack that has a front fork/back wheel attachment system such as the Yakima Sprocketrocket or Forklift. If that is the case, then you wouldn't need the Universal Locking Skewer accessory. I hope this explanation helps clear up any confusion.
Would use this with the wheel fork? Would...
Would use this with the wheel fork? Would it be very secure?
Thanks for the question. The Yakima Universal Locking Skewer would certainly be used to lock a bike down by the front wheel fork. It is used as an accessory to the Yakima Bedhead or Blockhead which are primarily for attaching bikes to the front of truck beds. Here are some instructions on how to secure a bike using this accessory (Please copy and paste the link into the URL address of your web browser):
I got this for my Yakima Fork Lift Bike Carrier after losing the one that came with the bike rack. It does the job just fine and I am getting more used to it but just like the system of my original one a little better.

No, Works for the BOA and Copperhead roofmount bike racks and the Bedhead and Blockhead truckbed mounts only.
From ORS racks direct: serves as a replacement part for Yakima Copperhead & Boa roof mount bike racks and Yakima Locking BedHead, Blockhead pickup truck bed mount bike racks etc. Skewer is lockable using a Yakima Racks SKS lock core and key (not included; see accessories below.) All Yakima fork mount bike racks come with a skewer included. The Locking Yakima Universal Skewer is a replacement part.
